Many people think stress only shows up in the mind, but it often shows up in the body first.
Jaw tension. Tight shoulders. Restless sleep. Feeling exhausted but unable to truly relax.
These can all be signs that your nervous system has been spending too much time in survival mode.
The good news? Your nervous system is not broken. It is adaptive. With the right practices, it can learn safety, regulation, and resilience again.

Have you ever tried a breathing exercise and felt even more anxious?
You’re not doing it wrong.
When we’re stressed, many of us are already overbreathing without realizing it. Taking bigger and bigger breaths isn’t always what the nervous system needs.
Often, the most powerful shift comes from slowing down the breath—especially the exhale.
The goal isn’t to force relaxation. It’s to gently signal safety to the nervous system.
Have you ever noticed that some breathing exercises help while others don’t? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Memorial Day from Pcracoke.
Many people think forward bends are just for flexibility, but they can also help stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system — supporting relaxation and regulation. Adding a strap creates more support, allowing the body to soften and settle more fully into the pose.
Then the release comes… ahhh.
The belly softens as the hip bones settle into gravity, and the breath naturally begins to slow. Without trying, the exhale gently lengthens on its own.
A longer exhale is often a sign the nervous system is shifting from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest. Follow me for more nervous system resilience practices.
