Doing what we can with what we have. Currently that means trying to rebuild some huge parade floats. And keep the tropical gardens beautiful. Which is looking good! Thank you for helping.

Weekend deconstruction party underway for the floats. They are seriously moopy and we are going to have a mess to clean up, but these must be completed by mid June.

Tomorrow at 10 am, we will be doing a "beneficial insect" release. Where we have ordered some great predatory insects to eat our pest insects. You're welcome to join. Free and in the large solarium.

Xanadu has applied for and is hoping to receive a grant for a coffee shop.

We previously ran Constellation Coffee as a coffee trailer for roughly 3 years and it was a great way to learn what does and doesn't work, so we could implement a more permanent solution.

Some factors --

The grant. Without help, it is unlikely we can expend that much without other ways to help. We await the SBA and American Express notification in March.

Permitting. We have applied for a permit and have cited the already permitted coffee space of similar size. Since foot traffic, some parking, and overall throughput has already been analyzed over 3 years, we are confident that we won't cause neighborhood consternation. Our purpose has always been to support the neighborhood and community, but it's nice to have proof of our prior operation to allay concerns. There will be a public hearing and process for this.

The build. Assuming the grant, this will be relatively straight forward and easy. As a collective of highly skilled individuals, we overbuild and have a keen eye on safety. The shop doesn't NEED 6x6" posts on a huge concrete foundation, but it will be much more appealing and robust. Stuff like that. Naturally, we will work with professional companies for things like our plumbing (Goodson's Plumbing is a fantastic local company).

So, pretty please keep your fingers crossed. It will be sooo nice to have a little walk-up cafe, which will provide not only new jobs to our community, but income with which we can continue to give back.

Xanadu purchased some beneficial insects for the dome. They do a great job of controlling what normally mortifies plant people. Mealy bugs, spider mites, aphids, and scale. Nom nom nom! These destroy them all.

It's not Halloween, but that doesn't stop us from unleashing the crawlies!
Beneficial insect release today. The guys do the hard work of eliminating even the worst pests in our dome and solariums. They are the battle buddies you WANT on your plants. What are they? Well...we will be doing an informational video on them later.
In the future, I will plan ahead and maybe do an open house so people can come say hello as we let them free.
