A snapshot of 2024!

Child abuse and s*x trafficking are closely related. Child s*x trafficking is a form of child abuse that occurs when a child under 18 is advertised, solicited, or exploited through a commercial s*x act.

The average age of children being exploited into s*x trafficking is 12 – 14 years of age.
1 in 6 of the 28,800 cases of children reported missing to NCMEC in 2023 were likely victims of child s*x trafficking.

The vast majority of victims of human trafficking experience multiple forms of abuse, such as domestic violence and s*xual assault.

When women's rights are rolled back, it leads to a weakening of protections against violence, making women and girls more vulnerable to various forms of abuse.

CHILD MARRIAGE is a form of gender-based violance and human rights violation that transfers guardianship of a minor from one adult (or pair of adults) to another, typically through force, pressure, or some other form of coercion.

The Consortium for Idahoans With Disabilities invites you to join us to Unite to Protect Medicaid next Thursday, March 20th from 12:00-1:00 in front of the Capitol.

Survivors of human trafficking depend on a wide range of federally funded services both during and after exploitation. Access to essentials such as food, housing, childcare, education, and financial assistance ensures safety and independence.

When services are unavailable, survivors face increased vulnerability, heightening their risk of re-exploitation, abuse, and trafficking.

Threats to these programs create direct threats to victims’ and survivors’ lives.

Child Victims of Forced Criminality
The use of children in compelled, coerced, or forced criminal acts is forced criminality. Forced criminality generally involves activities such as commercial s*x, drug smuggling, drug production, drug use, benefit fraud, theft, begging, and other criminal acts induced by adults.

Forced criminality as a form of human trafficking is defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of a person, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation.

Consent is not relevant in human trafficking if the victim was coerced or manipulated into the situation. Human trafficking is primarily judged based on the actions of the trafficker, not the victim's consent.

Coercion: Force, threats, or abuse can negate any apparent consent.
Fraud: Deception or trickery can invalidate any agreement.
Children: Children cannot legally consent to commercial s*x, so their consent is never relevant.

In 2024, 35% of individuals receiving assistance from the Idaho Anti-Trafficking Coalition self-identified as having a disability.

Traffickers deliberately target victims they think they will be able to isolate and control. As a result of stigma and stereotypes surrounding individuals with disabilities, traffickers focus on individuals with disabilities as targets in this crime. (National Human Trafficking & Disabilities Working Group)

Perpetrators use force, fraud and/or coercion to hold victims with disabilities in servitude. While victims with disabilities may be trafficked into s*x or labor, many cases include financial exploitation of Social Security and disability benefits. The opportunity to steal benefits provides an added incentive for traffickers to target persons with disabilities.
