Family Thanks MatCh Crew in Heartfelt Reunion:

In moments of crisis, every second counts. The Air St. Luke’s MatCh team is always on standby, ready to respond to emergencies. Each call they receive is not just a task but a personal mission to bring comfort and care to families in need.

After a normal term delivery, the Babitt family joyfully welcomed their newborn baby Abrum home. However, a concerning turn of events unfolded on the fifth day when Callum wouldn't wake up from a nap, leading to a frantic rush to Meridian ED amid fears of seizures.

The swift response of the Air St. Luke’s MatCh team brought relief, clarifying that the episodes were not indicative of seizures. Subsequently, the baby received care at St. Luke’s NICU, where thorough assessments ruled out seizure activity. After a reassuring NICU stay, the family returned home, with a diagnosis finally obtained after 28 days of genetic testing.

Today, Baby Abrum, now thriving at 11 months old, serves as a testament to the exceptional care provided by Air St. Luke’s and the NICU during this challenging period. In a heartfelt reunion in January, Mom Becca Babbitt and husband Officer Adam Babbitt expressed profound gratitude to Air St. Luke’s MatCh crew Jen Lucey and Lindsey Weimer for their rapid response, unwavering dedication and support throughout this trying time.

Air St. Luke's celebrates Alysha Gurr, LCSW, for her outstanding dedication to the Community Health EMS (CHEMS) team in Magic Valley. Alysha's hard work and commitment are highlighted during Social Work Month.

As we continue our Social Work Month series, let’s highlight the role of the CHEMS Program!

The Community Health EMS (CHEMS) team in Magic Valley is known for its innovative approach to extending primary care into patients’ homes through paramedics and EMTs. In 2023, CHEMS enhanced its services by adding a full-time social worker, boosting their ability to provide comprehensive behavioral health care.

CHEMS has always focused on follow-up care for patients with chronic conditions post-hospital discharge. The inclusion of a social worker has enabled robust mental health interventions, addressing the intertwined physical and mental health needs of patients.

A standout service is the behavioral health bridge program, offering crucial follow-up care after emergency department visits and 911 calls related to mental health. Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) conduct in-home visits for safety planning, psychoeducation, clinical interventions, and resource guidance, bridging gaps when community counseling services have long waitlists.

Alysha Gurr, LCSW, joined St. Luke’s in 2023 and has been integral to CHEMS’ success. She enjoys providing brief solution-focused therapy and being part of patients’ healing journeys, supported by a wonderful team and working environment.

The integration of social work into CHEMS has enriched their services, highlighting the importance of addressing both physical and mental health needs. This holistic approach demonstrates CHEMS’ commitment to comprehensive and compassionate community care.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we mourn the loss of these brave individuals who dedicated their lives to saving others.
