Sergeant Jacob Bouldin was on his way in to work recently when he saw Tommy, Owen, and Austin, standing outside the Chatham post office with an elderly female. There was just something about their interaction with her that really caught his attention. Tommy was holding her hand and helping her to balance. Sergeant Bouldin stopped to check on them and he learned that the elderly woman had started to feel dizzy while she was walking into the post office. She saw the boys riding their bikes nearby, and she called out to them for help. The boys immediately stopped and came to her aid. The woman told Sergeant Bouldin she knew she was in trouble, and had it not been for Tommy, Owen, and Austin coming to help her, she likely would have lost her balance and fell to the ground, causing her serious injury in the process. The three boys stayed by her side and comforted her until she was able to regain her composure, started to feel better, and was able continue on with her day. The woman told Sergeant Bouldin she was very, very appreciative and grateful for their help. β€οΈ
Sergeant Bouldin was so moved by this that he followed up with each of the boys' parents and relayed this story to them. He told them how impressed he was with their actions in stepping up and helping the woman in her time of need. Each of the boys got to meet Sergeant Bouldin's K-9 partner, Dagz, and they all got a private tour of his K-9 squad car.
Sergeant Bouldin also learned Tommy was a recent attendee at our annual Chatham PD Junior Police Academy. It certainly sounds like Tommy listened and took to heart one of the most important principles we teach children in our academy (and we also teach to every one of our new officers), in that serving and helping others is truly one of the most important parts of our job. We could not possibly be any prouder of these 3 boys for exemplifying this right here in our own community! β€
