Our thanks to everyone who donated yesterday! We have just over $34,000 towards our goal of $100,000! Thank you!
Meet Forrest- Forrest was a stray of indeterminant age that landed in a southern shelter and was subsequently pulled by another rescue who then transferred him to BSR when the enormity of his needs began to be known. Having been a stray, his skin and coat were in incredibly poor condition and he was scrawny and neglected. Immediately we found that he was heartworm positive but observers that helped transport him to his Foster reported that he seemed to have trouble with his vision. That prompted a visit to an eye specialist in Charleston, who found that he had had a traumatic rupture of the retina in one eye and was completely blind there. Her concern was that the other eye could also suffer the same fate, if not monitored closely, and he was already suffering from lack of tear production, which in end of itself is painful for him. He has been on medications for his eyes since intake and will likely remain on them for life with consistent follow up with the eye specialist. In the end, the treatment of the heartworms was fairly straightforward, and as he reached the milestone of terminating the infection it was then found that his kidneys were not functioning as they should, and he would need to be monitored for that condition for many months while we determined what his new baseline of blood chemistry and internal organ function would be.
Despite everything he’s been through Forrest remains a happy go lucky sweet boy who finally feels great and has a loving family of his own!

Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through 2026. Harder still is realizing that Boykin Spaniel Rescue is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! We are deeply grateful to the donors, volunteers, fosters, adopters and friends who have made these 25 years of rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and second chances possible.
So far, 2026 is shaping up to be a year of record intakes for BSR. As of May 29, we have welcomed 56 dogs into our care, including two litters-- 17 puppies in all-- born to at-risk female rescues while in foster care. In addition, we continue to provide lifesaving care for our 27 Permanent Foster care dogs, many of whom have complex medical needs and remain with us year after year, We have 68 dogs in our care today.
Through May, our dog care expenses have already exceeded $110,000, As we do each year, we are reaching out to you with a mid year update and a request for your support. Our goal for this fundraising campaign is $100,000.00.
To date, the care of these dogs has included:
34 intact dogs requiring spay/neuter surgeries
10 heartworm positive dogs requiring 4-6 month treatment protocols
5 dogs requiring mass or tumor removals and biopsies
3 dogs needing extended stays at emergency veterinary clinics
3 dogs requiring dental surgeries
3 dogs requiring hernia repairs
2 dogs requiring heart surgeries
1 dog with idiopathic clustering grand mal seizures
13 dogs with multiple medical issues requiring catastrophic-care level treatment
Every day, BSR says "yes" to dogs who have nowhere else to turn. Your generosity makes those lifesaving "yeses' possible- and with your continued support, we can be there when the next call comes.
As Boykin Spaniel Rescue celebrates 25 years of creating new beginnings, we ask for your support in continuing this lifesaving mission. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide the medical care, compassion, and second chance our dogs deserve. Thank you for standing with BSR and helping give the dogs in our care the new beginnings they so richly deserve.
With gratitude,
Jill
