Here are six ways for children to stay safe and healthy during Halloween, especially while trick-or-treating:
🎃Plan a Well-Lit Route: Choose well-lit streets and neighborhoods for trick-or-treating. Avoid dark or unfamiliar areas.
🎃Use Reflective Gear: Wear reflective clothing, carry a flashlight, or use glow sticks to ensure visibility to motorists.
🎃Inspect Treats: Check all candy and treats before consuming them. Avoid eating anything that looks suspicious or unwrapped.
🎃Buddy System: Go trick-or-treating with a group of friends or family members. Stay together and establish a designated meeting point in case you get separated.
🎃Respect Traffic Rules: Cross streets at crosswalks, obey traffic signals, and look both ways before crossing. Be cautious of moving vehicles.
🎃Stay on Sidewalks: Walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing oncoming traffic and as far to the side as safely possible.
Remember, Halloween should be a fun and safe experience for everyone. Enjoy the festivities while taking necessary precautions!

Executive Director James Regan Jr. and Program Manager Danielle Beck attended New York’s first ever Youth Mental Health Summit at ! This summit was organized in direct response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s action plan to support mental health in the wake of isolation and uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The summit aims to “bring together youth, parents, and subject experts from the mental health, education, technology, and law enforcement to discuss challenges and opportunities impacting the well-being of our youth”. Some of the informative talks and panels included “The State of Our Youth: Growing Up in the Social Media Era,” “Classroom Well-Being: A Discussion on Student and Educator Mental Health,” and “The Power of Families and Communities.”
It is incredible seeing so many different people come together to support one important cause, and we are so grateful to be a part of this monumental experience!
Today is Juneteenth!
While Juneteenth has been celebrated by the black community in America for over 150 years, it has only recently begun to receive recognition as the important holiday that it is.
In the midst of government attempts to ban or censor the real histories and stories of the African American community, it is important to take time to do your own research and educate yourself.
To help with this, we’ve compiled a list of books by black authors from a variety of genres- from historical nonfiction, to critical race theory, to YA romance! We recognize the importance of different perspectives in understanding the rich and diverse experiences of the African American community, and also recognize that even the variety that exists on this list is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the endless stories that have been told!
To help us expand this list and our own understanding, we encourage you to drop YOUR favorite books in the comments below! ❤️💛💚
We had a blast at our Staff Appreciation Day! From tasty wraps from Gio's Pizza to exciting games like co****le and kickball, it was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and great memories.
It's important to take a break and be kind to yourself.
Don't continue to criticize yourself over mistakes, setbacks, or failures because they're a natural part of life.
Remember, there's no guidebook on how to always get everything right.
This June, Lodestar wishes everyone a Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈
Q***r people fight every day for the right to not only be their most authentic selves, but to pave the road for EVERYONE to do the same. In the midst of anti-trans and anti-LGBT legislation nationwide, take some time to return the favor and use your voice to support your LGBT community members. Learn about the history of pride, read stories about the lives of q***r people, show up to support LGBT events and businesses, and most importantly, remember that love will always prevail!
Happy Pride!!! ❤️ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜
Thank you to The Trevor Project for the research and statistics used!
