I am still pondering the constituent who, at a council meeting, used a hypothetical couple that currently rent due to property taxes being the limiting factor in purchasing a home. It is an additional payment, but it pales in comparison to housing prices and insurance premiums. Why do we fail to address the insurance elephant in the room? We have been requesting reform for over a decade and received a diversion tactic instead. Yes, we needed to initiate fiscally responsible property tax reform so cities do not cut services and taxes decrease, but is that truly the issue preventing the middle class from purchasing a home? I do not think so. If you haven’t had a chance to visit, please check them out! They have a full plant nursery that you probably wouldn’t know was there. They create jobs for those with disabilities and I had the honor of spending Earth Day at this amazing place!

I went on a sea turtle walk with friends, at Gumbo Limbo. Several false crawls, but we released 2 hatchlings, a Loggerhead and a Leatherback. Imagine learning to walk and swim in less than 24 hours. The seaweed provides protection from predators and a food source while they become acclimated to life! Amazing!

If you have a child participating in sports, they offer free electrocardiograms. Heart defects and other abnormalities are sometimes not diagnosed in children and teenagers until they are active in sports and suffer an event. These can be fatal. ECGs are required now. It’s quick, painless and saves lives. “Blessed are those that care for children for they hold tomorrow in their hands.”
Last night, we were honored to welcome Nicklaus Children's Hospital Boca Raton Pediatric Specialty Care Center to our community.
This new specialty care center expands access to pediatric cardiology services for families across South Palm Beach County, bringing essential heart care closer to home. The facility offers services including EKGs, echocardiograms, and fetal cardiac evaluations, helping families access specialized care without the need for extensive travel.
We congratulate Nicklaus Children’s on this important investment in Boca Raton and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the health and well-being of our community.
I’m hearing many comment that our beaches are “dirty.” Sargassum seaweed is a natural occurrence. During sea turtle season, beaches cannot be spotless. A natural beach is never spotless and sargassum does not equate with a dirty environment. However, the trash people leave does. This is the rhythm of our sea. We are so blessed that we have these beautiful, protected beaches. 50 plus years later and I still love walking through the tunnels under A1A.
