Our brave boy Butch had a mast cell tumor removed and was a great candidate for HBOT following his surgery to aid in his healing process. We were lucky enough to see him for his incision check appointment yesterday, and we are happy to report that he is still all smiles and back to running and jumping around. 😊

A sea turtle is swimming free again — and hyperbaric oxygen was part of the story. 🐢

"Young Frankenstein," a critically endangered Kemp's ridley, was stranded on Cape Cod with a hypoxic brain injury. The team at Advanced Veterinary Specialty Center of New England, working with the New England Aquarium, treated him with hyperbaric oxygen therapy — and he was cleared to return to the ocean. Believed to be a medical first for sea turtles.

This is what's possible when a veterinary team has the right tools and the will to try something new. Proud that our chambers are part of work like this.

In veterinary physiatry, recovering function also depends on the conditions in which the tissue is recovering.

Trauma, surgeries, complex wounds, inflammation, edema and changes in circulation can compromise local oxygenation and hinder important processes for repair.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses oxygen in a pressurized environment to increase its availability in the body. This increase can favor mechanisms related to healing, angiogenesis, cellular activity, inflammation control and response to infectious processes.

Therefore, the hyperbaric chamber can be an important adjuvant therapy in certain patients, especially when oxygenation or tissue recovery is compromised.

In physiotherapy, however, the ultimate goal remains the recovery of the function. Oxygen therapy can contribute to preparing the biological path while other strategies work mobility, strength, coordination and functional capacity.
