Amending the Residency Requirements for City Council Candidates (Including Candidates for Mayor)
The City Charter currently provides that a person seeking to qualify as a candidate for
City Council, including candidates for Mayor, must be a city resident for at least 30
days before the first day of the qualifying period. The proposed amendment regarding
residency (to be effective April 1, 2021 ), lengthens the residency period to one year,
disqualifies persons with a non-City homestead exemption, and provides that proof
of residency will be established by ordinance.

The City Charter currently provides that a person seeking to qualify as a candidate for
City Council, including candidates for Mayor, must pay a qualifying fee. The proposed
amendment (to be effective April 1, 2021) eliminates the fee, and instead requires
candidates to submit a Petition with signatures of 200 or more registered city voters,
and provides that procedures relating to petition signatures will be adopted by ordinance.

Just got this in an email from Mayor Scott Singer. Boca will have 200 doses * TOMORROW * and registrations starts in * 5 MINUTES * (NOON) . Must be 65 years or older. Link: www.myboca.us/vaccine.

----Mayor Singer:
"JUST IN: The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County (FDOH) will provide a limited amount of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine doses to Boca Raton Fire Rescue to administer to Boca residents 65 years and older TOMORROW. We anticipate receiving only 200 doses. We know that’s nowhere near enough for our city's needs, but we are making available the limited allocation we have received.

At NOON today, qualifying residents over 65 who want appointments can sign up for the limited spots at www.myboca.us/vaccine. Please refer to that website for further details. Appointments are limited; no walk-ins available.

With only 200 doses, most people will not get the first set of appointments. For today, we are only getting 200 doses as a one-time distribution for this week's allocation. This is all we have for now, and we didn't want any of the few doses to go to waste. We know we need more and continue to press for more. I’m on the phone every day working on this. I know many of you may read this later today; there are further useful updates below, even if tomorrow's slots are filled.

Public health leaders continue to assure us that all who want the vaccine will eventually get it, although it will take months to do so to vaccinate millions and millions of people. Please continue to be as patient as possible and follow health experts’ guidance in the meantime."
