Selfless love
Highest love
Is the purest form of love that my fellow meditation practitioners will innerstand deeply.
I wrote this piece as an attempt to communicate how I experience other beings as they are, not related in any way to who they are to me personally.
Obviously in relationship, this love may exist when safety and surrender are the foundation. But needs to be balanced with human love as pertaining to us as individuals.
Divine love without boundaries and reciprocity in relationship is not ideal as we are multilevel human beings ❤️ and the best connections are holistic and messy.
I sent this video & the poem to my 93 yr old grandmother today ❤️
She called me and told me she was concerned for my wellbeing asked if I was depressed..
I asked her why she would think that and she said "the weight of your words, I didn't know you felt so much pain from what happened in your life"
I told her I was happier than ever in my life and that living to me is about embracing my story, feeling everything deeply and expressing my inner world just the same.
I then realized her question to me was a projection. And that she was the one feeling.
That poem and song activated something in her. Something innate and hidden.
She told me she wasn't use to feeling these things, although she opened up about how she desired to write a book about her life.
Granny has the kind of magic that begs to be kept in a heart shaped box.
I would say my intention as an artist and a teacher is to encourage those around me to FEEL.
And there is an important reason for this.
Trauma and suffering can only exist when they are hidden, numbed and unfelt.
To heal begins with feeling fully. Everything else comes after.
This is my new therapy! New vehicle of expression for me: Writing Words ➕️ Sounds/Music From My Heart or Shadow ➕️ Gutting my internal world 🌎 through communicating story through visual representation snd symbolism.
This piece is inspired by the I am ✍️ ✨️

I chased the butterflies
Not so I could keep them
But in hopes they might remember me.
“Never touch a butterflies wings” she said with a voice like a golden hum
“The oil from your hands can damage them”
How could I not touch the most beautiful part of a butterfly?
A limit I didn't expect but I regarded as important, for the sake of flying
Mom's frame was small like a whisper but her boots were heavy.
And though their weight would keep her in the forest forever
She was the one who taught me how to fly
As to not inherit her brokenness
Something she was afraid of
But im not afraid of brokenness
Nor the silence that comes with loss
I am afraid of forgetting
Becoming the emptiness
I am afraid of having to stay quiet
I am not afraid of breaking
Because I am already broken

"Vigil"
I light a vigil for myself
For all the parts of me
That have already died
The parts that cease to be either by choice or by force
"There she is" I whisper to myself
Alone so no one will hear
As I grasp the faded photograph
From a cardboard box, I haven’t opened in years
The pungent smell of must
mixed with memories I have long forgotten
Ever since I can remember I thought I would
Yet, I also tried not to
Remember
The echo chamber of the dark grave I once crawled in
Laid to rest I waited there to disappear
And disappear I did
Yet here she is
And there she was
Alive as ever
I realized I never mourned her as I was so caught up in becoming
I tried not to focus on what I ended up losing
Yet even now when my face has grown older and somewhat tired
My index finger and thumb gently hold onto the lost years
The picture of her gazing out into the grease-filled city streets
Run down with rats and roaches by night
Though the day seems fair weather at first glance
The Victorian edge and colonial buildings jagged
Living their days cutting deep into city dwellers
As they try to convince us they represent true culture and important history
I do in fact remember the moment in this photograph.
Cozy in the down coat that Grandma bought me.
My hair fried from trying too hard
My face chiseled gritting my teeth so hard holding onto living with dear life
I line up battery-powered candles that have yet to be a flame
I see her, thin on this paper.
A moment captured in time
My face, the same face I have now.
Except this face is alive.

At its most powerful, courage is rarely loud. Mostly, it's a whisper: those moments every day when you do what matters.
What does courage look like for you today? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
Anyone can find stillness
