Annual BHR Society meeting with Elvis (impersonator) Ron Perren performing!!

The Board of Directors wishes a "Happy Springtime, 2022", to all and accompanied by an invitation to the Members of the Byron Herbert Reece Society to attend our Annual Membership Meeting on May 14th, 2022, at the Reece Farm and Heritage Center. I hope all is well with you and your families. If you are reading this and are not yet a Member of our Reece Society, you still will be able to join our fellowship at the Reece Pavilion. (Membership forms will be available at the Membership table. Individual memberships are $25 and Family memberships are $45 per year. Lifetime memberships are available. The Farm gates will open at 10:00 A.M. We will be there mingling with our fellow Members, signing in and getting ready for a fine May day of Fellowship and entertainment and celebrating the legacy of our beloved poet, novelist and mentor, Byron Herbert Reece.
Our program will open with an Invocation, thankful that we will safely be able to assemble with our peers in the great outdoors on the grounds where Reece grew corn, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, and many other healthy vegetables to feed and provide for his family. He proudly self declared, "I Am A Farmer First and A Writer Second"! There will be a reading of a selection from his poems and some of Reece's ballads set to tunes. Our Keynote speaker will be Mr.Justin Shook, an Educator in the English Department at Rabun County High School. Mr. Shook is very familiar with and teaches Reece's poetry. Our musical entertainment will be Mr. Roy Perren, a 30 year Educator and current Principal of Towns County High School. Mr. Perren is a well known and talented musician who will keep us smiling and perhaps singing along and toe tapping. He sings a variety of types of music, particularly from the 60's including Presley, Orbison, some Merle and Willie, some Gospel, some Folk, some Western. If you sit near the front, he might put a scarf around your neck. He's sure to entertain! We will have a brief business meeting including an overview of the events of the past two years, since we have been shut down due to health precautions for our members (COVID-19), and will approve the 2022-23 Board of Directors. A catered barbecue lunch will be available. There is no admission fee for the Farm and entertainment. There will be a nominal charge of approximately $15.00 per plate for the lunch. You will receive a letter shortly to send your annual membership dues. Donations may also be made to the Byron Herbert Reece Society and to the Reece Society's "John and Patti Kay Scholarship Fund".
It would be very helpful in planning the meal if you RSVP how many will be dining with us. I sincerely hope you can come. Please come by the "sign up" table for a name tag. I would love to recognize your name. I have met a lot of you, but not as many as I would like to know.
I hope you might linger and stroll by Wolf Creek, visit the Barnyard animals, see how the lovely Conifer Garden donated by Ms. Shirley Cole and family has grown. Some of you haven't seen the wonderful Al Garnto Sculptures "The Byron Herbert Reece Memorial" (depicting Reece the Farmer and the Writer . . .as well as "I Know A Valley Green With Corn" and the Kinetic Sculpture entitled "The Hawk and The Sun". Al did a fabulous work in honor of Reece's poetry. The latter one is an addition to the always beautiful Season's Stone Garden donated as a memorial by the Garland Reynolds family. You also may not have had the opportunity to visit the Farm since the opening of the newest treasure, "The Pentecost Antique Tool Shed", made possible by the generous donation of tools and building by the Mr. John Pentecost family. Some may not have had the opportunity to sit in the lovely and comfortable swings beside the creek. I hope you will join us! Enjoy the gorgeous Rhododendrons and Forsythia bushes at the entrance of the Reece Farm.
