This event is coming up this Saturday. If you havenât signed up yet you still have time just message me here. This is the original post:
Do you like to volunteer for a good cause?
Well, here's a great opportunity!
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, the Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee Rotary needs your help. Through "Meals of Hope", Rotary will package 60,000 meals for our local community!
200 volunteers are needed to come to the Towns County Recreation & Conference Center (150 Foster Park Road, Young Harris, GA 30582) from 9 a.m.-12 noon.
This is a very organized event, and it is set up so well that 200 volunteers should be able to pack 60,000 meals in 3 hours. The completed meal packages will stay RIGHT HERE in our community to help with meals in emergency situations, and also help feed children who need food during the summer, when they are not in school.
I have personally volunteered for a similar event, and we had a great time, while meeting a great need in our community.
Can you help us?
If you can volunteer that morning, please let me know, so I can put you on the list. Just send me a message below, and I will get in contact with you for your information.
Please gather up your friends and join us for a great morning!

Union County Fire/Rescue & EMA
We Still Need Them
In last weekâs column, we explained the need for more volunteers. Union County Fire Department, being a combination department, has both career and volunteer firefighters. The volunteers make up the majority of the department. We have a motivated and dedicated volunteer force that is well trained, but we are always in need of more volunteers.
The reason that we are always asking for more volunteers is due to the fact that people have become increasingly busy and unable to dedicate as much time to volunteering and responding as in the past. We ask for more volunteers in the hopes to increase our numbers. The increase of the number of volunteers would increase the likelihood of more responding to fires and other emergencies.
We explained in the last column how rewarding the fire service can be and why a person should join the department. We also explained the type of people that we are looking for. We are looking for people who have the âfirefighterâ traits. These traits are knowledge seekers, problem solvers and helpers. We are looking for people who want to learn new lifesaving skills and be part of the adventure that is the fire service.
Most people see joining the fire department as a volunteer job where they must run into a burning building. Some firefighters do enter burning structures but there are many jobs in the volunteer fire department that do not involve going into a burning building. We have support roles such as pumping fire apparatus, supporting fire operations, wildland firefighting, search and rescue, and many more. They are essential jobs that must be performed for us to be successful.
Although the support roles are extremely important and we need more volunteers to fill those roles, we are also in need of structural firefighters. We are in need of people who are willing to complete the training on interior structure firefighting. We need people who can respond to structure fires. It is mentally and physically challenging, but it can be the most thrilling and rewarding experience.
So, you may ask, how do I get started on this adventure? It is easy but you must hurry; we have classes starting soon. Contact the Headquarters station @ 706-439-6091 for information on applications. You can also visit the headquarters station at 507 Shoe Factory Rd and pick up an application there. Interested people may complete the application and if accepted, start fire training in November.
As we have stated before, volunteering for the fire department is a rewarding service. Union County Fire Department is always looking for more volunteers. That could be you. Union County Fire Department ~Our Family Protecting Your Family~

FBC Blairsville
FBC family and friends! As many of you have heard, the Blairsville Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for this Sunday night, December 16th at 6:00pm. We will not be having our regular evening services and instead weâre gonna take this opportunity to Be The Church and serve our community as they gather to enjoy the parade. We will be providing parking, seating, and restrooms, as well as hot chocolate and candy canes, all for free! Come join us at 4:30pm at the FBC Ministry Center to volunteer and find a place to serve. Merry Christmas!

This Sunday!
Come join the fun in Downtown Blairsville this Sunday! Many of your favorite shops & restaurants will be open as we celebrate the Christmas season. The Union County Historical Society will kick off the day with a bake sale at 1pm, followed by photos with Santa from 3pm - 5:30pm. Additionally, we'll have games and activities for kids from 4pm - 5:30pm, and will finish up the festivities with our annual Christmas Parade at 6pm!

Castoff Pet Rescue
Castoff wants to say Thank you to all of our volunteers. Each of you helps in your own special way. It makes such a difference to the animals in our care. We could use more local folks who love animals to come by the shelter and play, walk, brush, love on, kiss, and talk sweetly to the dogs. If you want to know more, please message us.
UCHS Theatre
I need some local help... Is there anyone willing to help with the theatre dinners this Thur/Sat and next weekend?
I also need volunteers to make cornbread muffins and cobblers or fry some chicken.
Let me know if you are able to help in any way.
We are also looking for businesses to sponsor. They can support the Fine Arts through donating money or by donating food/ingredients to offset expenses. We have a form to present.

We'd like to thank everyone for making this year's Hometown Halloween on the Square such an awesome event. We've had nothing but compliments on how well trick-or-treating went, and people are already looking forward to next year!
Now that Halloween is behind us, it's time to focus on our next downtown event, 'Christmas on the Square'. Taking place on Saturday, December 1st from 4pm - 6pm, we'd like for you to help us make this year's event bigger and better.
We would love it if your business or organization would consider participating by setting up a table or tent, and having games or activities for kids to enjoy prior to the parade, which will be held at 6pm. Activities might include decorating christmas ornaments or stockings, crafts, 'reindeer games' or any other activity suitable for kids. Prizes can be candy, ornaments, crafts, etc....just something small. We'll be closing off the parking area in front of Michaelee's and also utilizing the courthouse grounds so that we have plenty of room for kids to enjoy the day in safety.
This is another opportunity for you advertise and to give back to the community, and we'd love to have you.
If you're interested in joining in on the fun, please contact me at [email protected], or via facebook at 'Visit Downtown Blairsville' or by phone at 706.347.3503. Again, thanks for making our downtown events so successful....we couldn't do what we do without you!
