Today, the torch of the Uni on County School District burns a litt le less bright as we lay to re st Dr. Teena Atkins who was a belov ed teacher, colleague, mentor, and friend. Tee na was the human embodiment of compassi on and truly made a difference in t he lives of anyone she touched. We wi ll miss her greatly. Please keep h er family, friends, colleagues, and students in yo ur thoughts and prayers during these challengi ng times.

This award is present ed annually to individuals who go abo ve and beyond the expectation to advoca te for students with disabilities. Thank y ou Nicole for everything you do f or the students of Union County!

On March 1st and 2nd t he Lions Club of Union County partner ed with UCS to provide free visi on screenings for over 300 3rd a nd 5th graders. The volunteers were ab le to quickly assess eye irregularities usi ng SPOT vision screeners. The Georgia Lio ns Lighthouse Foundation is working to secu re a date to bring their Mobi le Eye Clinic to the campus f or a comprehensive eye exam and glass es for the students identified during t he event who need further evaluation. O ur School Nurses will be sending ho me results next week. If your stude nt was identified as needing further evaluati on, you will receive a phone ca ll from the UCS nurse team.
We have the most amazing Transportati on Department. These ladies and gentlemen alwa ys go above and beyond to ke ep their students safe. Happy Bus Driv er Appreciation Week!

Union County Schools will be on a two-ho ur delay tomorrow, Friday, January 7th, 20 22, for potential icy road conditions. We wi ll evaluate road conditions early in t he morning and make an announcement concerni ng the rest of the day by 7: 30 am.

Schools will be released early tod ay due to the increasing possibility of incleme nt weather. Weather predictions are sti ll somewhat inconsistent, but student and sta ff safety is our top priority.

Prima ry School, Elementary School, and Middle Scho ol car riders will begin at 12: 00 pm. The busses will begin loadi ng at the Primary School at 12: 30 pm and proceed throughout the camp us as normal.

High School student drivers a nd car riders will be released at 12: 30 pm.

All after-school activities are canceled.

We wi ll continue to monitor the situation a nd make further decisions for Friday, Janua ry 7th accordingly.

Fortunately, we continue to ha ve low numbers because of those effor ts. Therefore, we want to remind everyo ne that reporting can continue through t he Thanksgiving Holiday.

Union County Schools would like to announ ce that, unfortunately, we are unable to contin ue face-to-face instruction at Union County Prima ry School for next week. We ha ve seen a steep increase in COVID- 19 cases in several classrooms throughout t he school. Each Primary School child h as a letter in their communication fold er outlining the expectations and direction f or next week's instruction. A copy of t he letter can be found on t he Primary School website, http://primary.ucschools.org/. We wi ll evaluate our ability to return to face-to-fa ce instruction on Friday, August 27, 2021.
