Today's testimonial is from Retired Fort Belvoir Fire Department Assistant Chief Bruce Wright. Bruce is a graduate of the 2017 VCOA Class and was on Staff in 2018. Below are some words from Chief Wright.

"With less than a year until I retire from 34 years of volunteer and career fire service, I checked into the first Virginia Chief Officer academy. As an Assistant Fire Chief who attended leadership classes, I thought I was done learning how to be a leader. I looked around the room wondering what I could learn from this group of chief officers. As we learned and shared real-life experiences, I realized that I was a leader and that I could be a better leader and person. In addition to learning about team building, making decisions, and developing other leaders, I developed long-lasting friendships".

To start your application log on to https://VFCA.us today. Application period runs until April 1st.

Today's testimonial comes from, 2021 VCOA Graduate Chief Mike Ayres. Mike is the Fire Chief of the Galax Fire Department. Below are some words from Chief Aryes about our program.

"I arrived at the VCOA full of apprehension. As a volunteer chief from Southwest VA I was a bit intimidated being around the other participants with their impressive list of credentials. My apprehension was quickly assuaged. Chief Barden took me under his wing. Chief McCormick and I had many fire and family conversations. Settling in, I found myself soaking in the knowledge and experience from the other classmates as they graciously shared their experiences. I learned as much from this informal instruction as I did the actual classes. And the classes and presenters were world class! I continue to refer back to my notes and use the knowledge gained daily from each session as I navigate the waters of becoming a new Chief.

I could speak at length about each session. However, nothing I could say paints a clear enough picture. So let me simply end by encouraging anyone and everyone who is interested in furthering their passion for the fire service, to participate in the Virginia Chief Officer Academy. The staff work tirelessly year round preparing to provide an unforgettable, remarkable, career enhancing week for those who are blessed enough to attend. Thank you to the VCOA Staff, the instructors, and my classmates for an incredible experience!"
