I've been receiving questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and Tricare at civilian pharmacies. This flyer was provided by our Tricare liaison who works for Human Military, the Tricare East provider. If you have further questions don't hesitate to use the link to Tricare.mil at the bottom of the flyer or to reach out to Tricare directly.
Today is the first day of Open Season elections for both Tricare and FEDVIP (Benefeds). From now until 14 Dec 2020, you can either enroll or make changes to your medical plans without the need for a "life event" to do so. You can either enroll into a plan, change your plan or stay in your plan. Those of you enrolled in Tricare Select will be charged an annual enrollment fee starting 1 Jan 2021, on top of having a deductible and cost shares.

Go to www.tricare.mil/openseason20 and www.benefeds.com (for Retiree Vision and Dental coverages) for more information.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt what we considered "normal" life to be, everyone has had to adapt in order to move forward. To that point we have started using Microsoft (MS) Teams to conduct virtual appointments. MS Teams allows this office to connect to our customer base online, reducing or eliminating the need to make an in person appointment. Not only does this help mitigate the COVID risk, but it also reduces the need for long drives to beautiful Fort Pickett! The process is simple: Contact me either through this FB page or my business email address of [email protected] and request a virtual appointment. I'll need a good email address and you have to have access to the internet and preferably a computer, laptop or tablet (Smart phones have been hit or miss). I'll send you an invite to the email address you give me which will provide you all of the instructions. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING...we can connect over the wi-fi through your email. Once we connect, I can share my desktop with you to fill out forms, visit websites of interest or just have a discussion regarding a retirement issue you're having or want information on. Any new way of doing business will occasionally have it's glitches, but so far this has been a great tool for those I've worked with on this platform. I look forward to working with some of you virtually in the near future!
The U.S. Army Physical Disability Agency (USAPDA) has two open Retiree Recalls advertised. They are looking for Retired Army physicians as well as MOS immaterial Commisioned Officers and Non-Commisioned Officers for a two year Retiree Recall with duty at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. They need physicians to serve in a variety of positions, including Primary Clinical Advisor and Consultant to Regions within CONUS and/or OCONUS, PEB President, Field Grade Presiding Officers, PEB Staff and others. They are also looking for Branch/MOS Immaterial Commissioned Officers (MAJ-LTC) and NCO's (SGT-MSG) to fill the roles of PEB Adjudicators (Officers) and HR Processors (NCOs). Further information can be obtained by contacting the USAPDA G-1, MAJ Kelly Barton at (210) 221-1426, [email protected] or LTC Dawn Paul at [email protected]. If you have access to Milsuite, you can see the announcements at https://www.milsuite.mil/book/docs/DOC-843054 or DOC 843053.
As we adapt to a "new normal", there has been an increase in internet use as a great many people are working from locations other than their normal work location. This has caused a spike in internet fraud and the hacking of personal information. In response, the three major credit agencies are offering FREE WEEKLY credit reports for the next year! You can pull a weekly copy of your Equifax, Experian and Transunion credit reports at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action for free over the next 12 months. Stay on top of your credit during these uncertain times by taking advantage of this special service. Thanks to VaARNG Family Programs for passing this information along!
Virginia National Guard Family Programs has announced that the EANGUS, through a donation from USAA, is offering COVID-19 grants for ARNG Soldiers impacted by the current pandemic. Information on the grants, capped at $500 per member approved, can be found at https://eangus-wcfa.org/covid-19-application/ with only 500 grants expected to be given. The window to apply for these grants hasn’t opened yet, but when it does, will close 48 hours after opening, or whenever 1500 applications are received, whichever comes first. The website needs to be reviewed for eligibility requirements as well as the opening of the application window. If you know of an ARNG Soldier who has been impacted by the current health crisis, please forward the website to them. This will happen quickly so don’t delay!
As everyone is well aware of the current social distancing guidlines, gatherings such as the Annual Pre-Retirement Briefing have been put on hold indefinately. However, that does not diminish the need for this information by our retiring population. To that end, Department of the Army has provided two slide deck presentations to help Soldiers get some of the information they need as they begin the retirement process. These presentations can be found on the Soldier for Life website. An overall pre-retirement planning presentation can be found at: https://soldierforlife.army.mil/retirement/retirement-planning while briefings on both Survivor Benefit Plans (RC-SBP and SBP) and copies of the latest Retirement Planning Guide and Retired Soldier's Handbook can be found at: https://soldierforlife.army.mil/retirement/survivor-benefit-plan . Anyone in need of more personalized information can contact me at [email protected] and arrangements can be made to provide that information within current socializing guidelines.
If you are a Retired National Guard or USAR Soldier and are interested in helping with the COVID-19 pandemic response, the Army would like to hear from you. While they are mainly looking for those who held a health care MOS/AOC, any Retired Soldier is free to throw their name in the hat and offer "their particular set of skills". If accepted you would be volunteering to be put on active duty service through Human Resources Command (HRC). If you are interested, go to the HRC website at hrc.army.mil and click on the COVID19 Voluntary Recall Survey link at the top of the page. Fill out the survey, click submit and if there is an interest in your services you will be contacted with all of the details. You can also call HRC at (502) 613-4911 or email them at [email protected] for further information/details.
Due to the current health crisis and IAW recommendations of local and national health officials, the 2020 VaARNG Pre-Retirement Briefing is postponed until further notice. The briefing, scheduled for Saturday, 4 April 2020 at the JFHQ building on DSCR, will be rescheduled at an appropriate time in the future. We apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause.

Soldiers looking for retirement information are encouraged to use the Soldier for Life https://soldierforlife.army.mil/ and My Army Benefits https://myarmybenefits.us.army.mil/ websites. The State Retirement Services Officer can be reached through this page and via email at [email protected]. These are the best two avenues of contact as teleworking procedures are in effect and office time will be limited.
Announcing the 2020 VaARNG Pre-Retirement Briefing for Traditioal (M-Day) retirements! The briefing will be held Saturday, 4 April 2020 at the Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ) building on Defense Supply Center - Richmond (DSCR). The briefing will run from 8am to approximately 3pm, with sign in beginning at 7:30am. While the briefing is geared toward current Soldiers with 17+ years of service, any current Soldier, as well as Retired Soldiers in the Gray Area are welcome to attend. Subject matter experts from VA Disability, Tricare, State Education/Incentives and more will be at the event. The new venue allows more space for our vendors to set up individual stations to answer in depth/personal inquires. Entrance onto DSCR requires a valid military or governemnt ID Card/CAC. Use the registration link https://vko.va.ngb.army.mil/army/g1/SitePages/ARB.aspx to reserve your spot. If the link doesn't work, please message me and I'll register you. It is up to current Soldiers to coordinate their duty status with their unit. Current VaARNG Soldiers will attend this briefing either in a duty status or on their personal time. Spouses are welcome and encouraged to attend. More detailed information to come....
As promised, links to the next three Reserve Component Pre-Retirement Briefings held by the 99th Readiness Division (USAR) RSO are provided. I will be at all three briefings as I was for the past briefing at Fort Lee last month. There were over 200 people in attendance at the Fort Lee briefing. If you plan on attending any of the upcoming briefings, please be sure to use the provided links to register and lock in your spot.

Open season is here for Tricare and FEDVIP!. If you want to either enroll, change or cancel your Tricare or FEDVIP health plans, you have from 11 Nov 2019 to 9 Dec 2019 to do so. Remember, Retired Vision and Dental care moved from Tricare to Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) effective 1 Jan 2019. Outside of a Qualified Life Event (QLE), this is the only time of the year you can make changes, cancel or start a new plan. Go to either www.tricare.mil/openseason or https://www.benefeds.com for details.

The official page of Virginia Army National Guard Retirement Services Office (RSO). This page will offer information for Traditional (M-Day) Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers who have either already retired or have begun to consider doing so.

Links to articles as well as information pertinent to Retirees will be posted. How to request retired pay at age sixty, the new Blended Retirement System and how to request required documents are among the subjects that will be addressed by this page.
