Inked April
Delicate art of nature with the ethereal embodiment of the feminine soul by artist, April M. Harris It's almost meditative and relaxing.
For me, art is a form of expression where we can reimagine the world in a more vibrant and magical way. I try to create work that raises up the good things in life focusing on beautiful flowers and plants, animals and creatures real and imagined and the fantastical. I like to tell stories from imaginary places inspired by the world God created. Creative-minded, spiritual, with a heart full of fire

Detail shots of this experiment in procreate! I’m using the brushes by another artist (I’ll have to look it up!) I typically use 2 different brushes, a pencil brush and a watercolor brush. Then eraser or course… but that’s what I use AND it’s the same textures and techniques I would use traditionally.
That’s purposeful. It’s a consistency of medium and subject matter that really helps me continue to improve my style.
I have used various brushes from different creators, but it’s always a pencil and a watercolor combination that I use throughout. I’ve played with some organic brushes for leaves, branches, grass but those aren’t as good as creating it originally vs a “stamp”, just isn’t varied enough.

An art page for the creative enthusiast!
I am an artist, illustrator and designer located in Hoover, AL. I grew up playing with fairy creatures and chasing butterflies in the small town of Prattville, AL. I loved to play outside and climb in the creek behind my childhood home. When it would rain, my brother and I could play in the rain for hours. I always loved the sound of rain on the leaves as I sat beneath them. I have always loved to draw and went into art classes in high school. It was the one subject that I could make all A's in and it truly helped me through those tough teenage years. I then graduated from Auburn University Montgomery with a degree in Graphic Design. I have been a graphic designer throughout my professional career, but have always leaned on the illustrative side. At night, once my little ones go to bed, I pull out my art supplies and get to work.
For me, art is a form of expression where we can re-imagine the world in a more vibrant and magical way. I like to tell stories through my art, from imaginary places inspired by our world to exploring healing through my own personal spiritual journey.
For a long time I struggled against following what I thought others would want me to do (people pleasing) vs. doing what I knew I was meant to do. It’s sad to say that I see this struggle all around. We’re often told to not follow our passions, but in today’s world there are doors open to us that never existed before…mainly through technology and the internet. I hope that through my work and journey, I can inspire and motivate others to take this journey too.
