HEY! Who puts on new socks pretty much every day in the fall & winter? Yeah, probably you.
The awesome kids we serve in Ukraine definitely don't have new socks each day, & maybe not more than 2 pair. Can you help?
Thanks in advance for making their toes toasty warm & their hearts even more open to God's Word!
SOCK IT TO 'EM - no, its not a football cheer; rather its a sock drive for the children we work with in Ukraine. We like to take socks when we visit in the fall. They are especially needed in the winter, are cheaper and better quality here, and easy to transport. There are several ways you can participate: 1. send us dark socks of various sizes; 2. mail us a monetary donation in any amount with a note letting me know its for socks; 3. or send us a Target gift card through the facebook gift giving feature. Please get everything to us by September 23rd. Thanks and go SOCK IT TO 'EM!!!!
Happy Belated Independence Day, Ukraine! Anyone do anything to celebrate on Saturday? We had akroshka!
Here's the first update from camp at Bele in Lugansk. Read and pray for what's going on there!
Just yesterday we welcomed our AWESOME team and today we welcomed our AWESOME kids!!!
The official registration started after breakfast (9am), but children started coming to camp at 7.45, while almost everybody was asleep :(. So far we got just little over 40 kids :(, 5 were sent home with lice (they should be back in a few days) and at least 15 more are coming tomorrow. If the kids who submitted the appeals wouldn't show up by Tuesday, we will start inviting those kids who really want to come :). Wait on the news ;)
Food is pretty good so far, at least I heard that people liked it and were full when going to the following meal :). Since Americans sometimes do not eat or leave most of the plate, we have decided to change the way we serve the food, so everybody would take as much as they want and the leftovers would be send to people in the village who need help (it was Taryn's idea and she almost killed us for "waisting" those 4-5 plates, Zhenya will figure out which families need help the most).
Please pray about Schotovo kids. They are left on their own at the orphanage with no entertainment and none supervision. On Monday we gonna do our best to get them to come to our camp. It is a tough task, so please pray it all works out the right way. Otherwise, Suzette will be so sad and we do not need our MAIN boss to be sad :).
We had our first worship, skit and preaching today. The night show followed with the dorms representing themselves. And, of course, Cha-cha slide (whatever you spell it) is back!
Actually, the small camp gives some advantages: all kids had enough attention and I hope and pray this will help them a lot!
We also had a quick visit by my friends from Russia. One of them is the only guy from all Ukrainians/Russians, who regularly donates money to our ministry. F.e. the Internet access was set up at camp/orphanage last year, so all of you were able to see almost live broadcast ;). And the other guy also said he will do his best to support the ministry as well. God is changing hearts!!!
We only got a few days to be with the kids who were being hosted here, so read about a little bit of their time from Suzette, the founder of Grace to Ukraine and host home:
grace2ukraine.blogspot.com I can't be comfortable knowing that children are out there with no one. No one! Sometimes I think we live in a fairy tale mentality-everyone will grow up and live happily ever after. How sad we miss it-the one thing that we are commanded to do and that is to take care of orphans and widows. So many…
