Latest Gaming Craze is Bad News for Your Spine
A new augmented reality game called “Pokémon Go” has taken over phones and tablets around the world. How long the newest craze will last, no one knows. But one thing is certain—walking with your head down and staring at your phone may be good for catching Pokémon, but it’s terrible for your spine!
Text neck, caused by looking downward at your wireless device, wreaks havoc on your spine and leads to poor posture, subluxation and even disc compression.
Why? When your 12-lb. head is tilted forward, it causes a ton of strain on your neck—just a 15-degree tilt causes its weight to double. To combat text neck, raise your device to eye level to allow for better support of your head.

Backpack Safety Checklist
Each year hospitals treat thousands of children suffering from backpack-related injuries. Many of these result from carrying too much weight. Is your child using a backpack that is incorrectly sized? Is it configured properly?
When it comes to picking out the right backpack, here are four questions to ask yourself:
• Are the shoulder straps adjustable?
• Is the backpack padded?
• Are there interior compartments to hold items in place?
• Is the backpack the right size for my child?
If the answer is “yes” to each question, you may have found the perfect backpack. Go a step further and teach your child how to properly pack them by positioning contents for little movement and making sure the entire pack weighs less than 10% of their body weight.

Build a Better Body with Morning Stretches
After a good night’s sleep, waking up refreshed is one of the best feelings you can ask for. Your body feels rested, your mind is sharp and your muscles are…tight!
Spending 10 to 15 minutes stretching each morning is effective at helping you wake up, loosens your muscles for the day ahead and is considered a form of exercise.
A.M. stretching is also helpful for improving your posture. How? If you’re one of the millions of people worldwide that works behind a desk, slumping toward a computer and excessive sitting can result in tight chest muscles and an overstretched back. Implementing morning stretching into your daily routine isn’t just effective for loosening tight muscles, but helps them to become more flexible. Overtime, you’ll notice a positive change in your posture.

5 Dos and Don'ts to reduce back pain
Got back pain? You’re not alone. Consider these do’s and don’ts to help you get through and out of injury.
DO: Strengthen your core. Regular exercise strengthens important core muscle groups including obliques, pelvic floor and deep abdominals.
DON’T: Sleep on your stomach! Stomach sleepers put the largest amount of pressure on their spine, head and neck leading to pain throughout the day.
DO: Keep hydrated. Because most of our body is water, it needs proper, steady intake to keep it functioning properly.
DON’T: Sit for long periods of time. Do you work behind a desk all day? Set a reminder to get up and move once each hour.

Five Ways to Combat the Inner Slouch Potato
Like brushing your teeth and getting adequate exercise, standing up straight is all but required for a happy and healthy life. But from time to time, we’re all guilty of poor posture here and there. Consider these five tips to help keep your spine straight!
1. Avoid leaning towards your computer, which often results in forward head posture. Instead, increase the font size if you find yourself squinting and make sure the screen is level with your eyes.
2. Stay hydrated. When you have back or leg pain, your posture can be compromised. Hydrated tissue heals faster than dehydrated tissue.
3. Keep moving. Exercise each day and avoid sitting for long periods of time.
4. Build self-confidence. Your posture is the first thing others notice, influencing your confidence and energy level.
5. Can’t figure out why you’re a slouch potato? Determine the underlying cause with chiropractic care.
