• An international network of free self-help groups with both face-to-face and on-line meetings,
aided by a number of self-help materials that include the SMART Recovery® Handbook
• A not-for-profit charitable and educational organization of volunteers that has developed a recovery program that they wish to share with all who seek independence from harmful addictive behaviors.
• An abstinence based program that is grounded in well-researched therapeutic approaches geared to changing addictive behaviors.
As a system of supportive and educational self-help, it provides more than just mutual support. It empowers people to beat their addictions, both by learning how, and following through with a personal recovery plan.

Is the person an addict or alcoholic? Do they have a Substance Use Disorder? These questions miss the ways each person is unique. Just saying a person is alcoholic or an addict does little to help us to understand what kind of Substance Disorder. From Natural Pathways of Recovery by Steve and Pam Moore Coming out September 10th

We developed the Star Matrix to assess for how each individual person’s Substance Use Disorder has manifested.
