The Alabama Elks Association’s state major project is Camp ASCCA.
ASCCA is an acronym that stands for Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults.
We support Camp ASCCA throughout the year with various events. One of our big events each year is the annual Stoke N Smoke BBQ contest. It’s something the grill masters look forward to and practice for. In Alabama, we take our BBQing serious!
On August 7th Roebuck Lodge 79 and Bessemer Lodge 721 will hold a Stoke N Smoke BBQ practice at Roebuck Lodge. Teams from across the state are gathering to BBQ and raise money for the Camp.
We like to put the FUN in fundraising! It’s going to be a day of fellowship, food and FUN!
Upcoming, Saturday, August 7th Stoke N Smoke Practice BBQ!!
During this event we will have a corn hole tournament and a dart tournament. You do not have to be a member to play! Members please invite guests! This is a great time to introduce guests to the Elks and our State Major Project.
Corn hole tournament will start at 11AM. Entry fees are: $5.00/person blind draw; $20.00/team if you prefer to pick your team.
Dart tournament will start at 2PM. Entry fee is $8.00/player. We will play 301, Blind draw, double elimination.

Did you know that the BPOE played an integral part in June 14th officially becoming Flag Day???
In 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks designated, by resolution, June 14 as Flag Day. The Grand Lodge of the Order adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every Lodge in 1911, and that requirement continues.
The Elks prompted President Woodrow Wilson to recognize the Order's observance of Flag Day for its patriotic expression. But it was not until 1949 when President Harry Truman, himself a member of the Elks, made the proclamation that thereafter June 14 would be a day of national observance for the symbol of our country. It was through his Elks Lodge in Independence, Missouri, that President Truman got the idea for a national observance of Flag Day.
