April is Foot Health Awareness Month, and it reminds us to check in with our feet for clues about our health. Joint stiffness could mean arthritis, and tingling or numbness could be a sign of diabetes. Swelling might indicate kidney disease, heart disease or high blood pressure. Are your feet trying to tell you something? If so, don't ignore the signs, and find a doctor who listens at

Today is the fourth Sunday in Lent. Throughout our Lenten journey, let us continue to learn how to better love ourselves and one another. How are you taking time to spread love this week?

We are pleased to report that all connectivity issues affecting Ascension St. Vincent's St. Clair have been resolved. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked diligently to restore function to our network and phone lines.

We continue to experience intermittent connectivity issues at Ascension St. Vincent's St. Clair. At this time, outbound calls are available, but inbound calls are unavailable. We continue to escalate and engage with the network provider, Lumen.

Lumen Technologies reports a fiber was cut in Pell City. As a result, several businesses in the area, including Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Clair, are having issues receiving incoming calls. Lumen has a crew working to repair the fiber cut. We will let you know as soon as the repair is fixed.

At Ascension St. Vincent's, we believe in taking care of the whole person -- mind, body, and spirit. When Mrs. Mims was admitted to the hospital in February, her loving husband would visit her every day. During one visit, he mentioned to the nurse that he was also not feeling well. He was examined in the emergency room and ultimately admitted for care. While both were being cared for, several days had passed where the couple was unable to see each other.

"The physical therapist, Madison Hammons, came to my office and asked if we could reunite him and his wife. He said he wanted to see his bride," said Susan Sanderson, RN, Patient Care Supervisor. "We were able to use a travel monitor and bring him to his wife after getting permission, of course, from their physicians. Collaborative care is so important. The entire care team, from physical therapy to case managers and nurses were able to reunite this adorable couple who deeply missed each other."

Thank you to our wonderful care givers for taking patient care beyond medicine to provide truly compassionate care.

Congratulations to Kyle Seckinger, RN, who works in SICU at Ascension St. Vincent’s East, for earning the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. Kyle was nominated by several patients' families, who said:

“My father was extremely ill and near the end of life. Kyle was patient, kind and competent while caring for him. It was as if a member of our own family were administering the care. He is the gold standard.”

"My dad recently had an extended stay at your hospital. At the end he was moved to the SICU and Kyle was his nurse for the last four days of his life. He brought a feeling of peace when he entered the room and gave excellent nursing care, but it was so much more than that. He was kind, respectful and comforting. I am so thankful to everyone that helped care for him...but I will never forget Kyle."

"Kyle has been extremely attentive. He was in and out checking on my father around 6 times in just over an hour. He was so patient to explain everything to us and respond to anything we asked for."
