CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
In order to continue to ensure everyone’s safety, The Birmingham Pain Center would like to remind all patients of the following measures that have been implemented.
1. Every person entering the building will be screened for COVID-19 and have their temperature checked. If all is normal, they will be allowed to enter. Please maintain social distancing (6 feet apart) while the screening is being completed.
2. Once inside, please maintain social distancing in the elevator, waiting rooms, lab area, or anywhere else. Please understand that things will take a little longer than normal, as we need to allow more time for people to transition through the clinic.
3. No family members or guests will be allowed into the building unless absolutely necessary. For patients undergoing procedures under anesthesia, we ask that your driver wait in the car. Please provide the receptionist the telephone number for your driver and we will call them once it is time to pick you up.
4. The CDC and other agencies have made suggestions regarding personal protective equipment (PPE). Please understand that PPE is in high demand, and is needed in the hospitals for critically ill patients and healthcare workers caring for these patients. The staff will be wearing PPE as appropriate, but we do not have enough for patients. Please bring and wear your own cloth facemask or other PPE in order to minimize the risk of transmission of any viral/bacterial illness, including COVID-19.
5. In addition to our normal cleaning protocols, we are going to be performing extra cleaning. You will see our staff disinfecting high traffic areas more frequently than before. Please be patient as this will increase times in bringing patients back to exam rooms, but it will substantially reduce the chance for infection.
If you or anyone in your household has been tested and awaiting the results, or has experienced any of the COVID symptoms in the last 14 days, please DO NOT come into the office. Call our office at (205) 313-7246 to speak with a staff member to possibly reschedule.
We are currently open. The Stay at Home order for the state of Alabama has expired as of May 1, 2020. To ensure everyone’s safety, we are implementing the following measures:

Telehealth
We may be able to offer telehealth appointments to patients who are at high risk for complications from COVID-19 only. Telehealth is covered by insurance companies for a limited time. One of the requirements for a telehealth visit is the communication must be audio-visual, i.e. it has to be done using a device that has a camera and sound. If you have already been told by one of our staff members that your appointment can be completed via telehealth, we will be using the platform doxy.me. Each midlevel provider (PA or Nurse Practitioner) will have their own virtual waiting room. Please make sure you register with doxy.me prior to your appointment and use your first and last name (not nicknames) as it appears on your insurance card/plan so that it matches our chart.
We are re-opening the office on Monday April 20, 2020. To ensure everyone’s safety, we are implementing the following measures:

1. Every person will be called before their appointment and answer a brief screening questionnaire to determine if you will be able to be seen at your appointment. If you cannot be seen, we call you at or about your clinic appointment time for a telehealth visit. If you had a procedure we will call you and reschedule. If you can be seen, we will see you at the clinic.
2. Every person entering the building will be screened again and have their temperature checked. If all is normal, they will be allowed to come in. Please maintain social distancing (6 feet apart) while the screening is being completed.
3. Once inside, please maintain social distancing in the elevator, waiting rooms, lab area, or anywhere else. Please understand that things will take a little longer than normal, as we need to allow more time for people to transition through the clinic.

6. In addition to our normal cleaning protocols, we are going to be performing extra cleaning. You will see our staff disinfecting high traffic areas more frequently than before. Please be patient as this will increase times in bringing patients back to exam rooms, but it will substantially reduce the chance for infection.
7. Telemedicine visits will be allowed on a case by case only and only for those patients who it is necessary. Unfortunately, this is determined by your insurance companies to some extent. Some insurance companies time for telemedicine visits has expired, and we must see you in the office. Please rest assured we are doing everything possible for your and our safety during this time.
Due to the Corona Virus pandemic and at the recommendations of the CDC and many other government entities, The Birmingham Pain Center will be closed Thursday, March 19th to April 20th. Prior to April 20th, we will notify you if the closure will continue past that date. At this time we are planning to re-open on April 20th. During the time we are closed, we will do Telehealth (phone call) visits.
For patients who have office visits scheduled while we are closed, we will call on the day of your appointment at or near the time your appointment that was previously scheduled. This call will be a telehealth visit. So, please be near your phone and be ready to take the call. Your caller ID will NOT read THE BPC or The Birmingham Pain Center. It will appear as a random phone number. Please answer. If you miss the call or do not answer, we will leave you a message and try to call you later that morning or afternoon. You will also need to schedule a regular appointment in a month assuming we are able to open. One of our Nurses will call you after your Telehealth visit to schedule your next month’s follow-up or procedure appointment.
If you have an urgent need or problem, you can always call The Birmingham Pain Center main number, 205-313-7246 and leave a message as always and a Nurse will call you back during regular business hours.
If you get an appointment reminder call, please do not come to The Birmingham Pain Center unless you verify that we will be open.
We will let you know when we resume a regular schedule. You can always access our website at www.birminghampain.com or our page for updates and messages concerning office closures.
As always, we encourage you to remain safe and follow all public health guidelines.
