Dear Friends,

We have all been looking forward to celebrating the 40th anniversary of the ASMI Injuries in Baseball Course here in Birmingham. However, with the safety of our faculty, registrants, and exhibitors at heart and in light of the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the course co-chairmen met yesterday and made the painful decision to once again conduct the Baseball Course in an all-virtual format.The virtual edition of the Baseball Course will now be conducted on the evenings of January 26, 27, and 28. Congratulations to Kirby Kelley, clinical & surgical coordinator for Michael K Ryan, MD on receiving the 2021 Clinical/ Industrial/Corporate Athletic Trainer of the Year Award at this past weekend's Alabama Athletic Trainers Association annual meeting held in Gulf Shores, AL.

In addition to receiving this well-deserved award, Kirby also presented on “Wound Management: Concepts and Techniques” and had the honor of formally announcing the R.T. Floyd ASMI Athletic Training Residency Program, a collaboration between the American Sports Medicine Institute and Andrews Sports Medicine.

The athletic residency program will provide our practice the opportunity to train the next generation of athletic trainers in clinical athletic training.
