Hey I have a baby carrier if anyone has a client who needs one!
We need to stop criminalizing motherhood and start supporting and caring about the people who are raising our future! 😡
BirthWell Partners featured in Village Living online! Happy Birthday to us!!!
Has there been a final decision made about the plan for the summer classes?
Hello! I wanted to invite you to register as a vendor for our upcoming event. https://www.facebook.com/events/2426363870773003/?ti=icl
Come see this amazing work read in Tuscaloosa. Written by a UA alum after so much intensive research on James Marion Sims and the slave women he experimented on. All of whom we have received benefit from. It is a complex and critical look at the practices of father of gynecology.

I have spoken with Anna Grauer about hosting a Postpartum Doula training here in Birmingham. Here is the information about pricing for the training. I would like to get on her calendar as soon as possible for February 16-18th. If you are still interested please comment below so I can keep you informed.

Typically pricing for the workshop works like this:
Full Tuition: $500
30 days prior to workshop: $475
60 days prior to workshop: $450
90 days or more prior to workshop: $425

She offers payment plans for those who desire them. It is $100 to hold your space and then you can make payments as you wish, but the balance must be paid in full by the first day of the workshop.

She also offers reduced fees in cases of need. If someone is hoping for a reduced fee they just need to contact her directly at [email protected].
Recently there was some renewed interest in having a postpartum doula training in Birmingham Alabama. I emailed Anna Grauer who is very open to doing a training here. The dates she has is February 16-18 or February 23-25. We would need a minimum of 6 full paid attendees. She does offer payment plans. See her link below. I would love to get on her calendar. Interested?

Am I correct that someone on Medicaid can choose any doctor in the state that takes it?

Increasing access to birth doula support through doula training and free - low-cost doula services for families that cannot afford the regular cost of a doula.

We train community doulas who provide caring, one-on-one support to low-resource pregnant women and teens in central Alabama. Doulas provide women with the information they need to make informed decisions, support them physically and emotionally during labor, and assist them with breastfeeding and early bonding. It’s cost-effective care that makes a clinical difference.

Operating as usual

It's Testimonial Tuesday! Knowing how to create an environment that feels emotionally safe is truly one of the most important skills for a doula to have. Fear and anxiety can flood the body with hormones that interfere with the progress of labor.

Would you like to join our December Birth Doula Workshop to learn more about how to support birthing people? Register now! https://www.birthwellpartners.org/register-for-classes

Yes you CAN have a doula with you for your birth!!!! Call us and we'll get you set up!

I have it on good authority that UAB and St. Vincent's Labor and Birth Suites have gone back to TWO visitors starting today. Ask the medical professional supporting you for your birth! Maybe you CAN have a doula come with you in PERSON!!! There is still time to hire a doula!!!

November is Prematurity Awareness Month. Each year, the March of Dimes creates a report card for each state, and each year, Alabama receives an "F."

Increased access to doula care is recognized as one way to improve our score. We see this improvement reflected in the data we collect from births attended by our doulas. Unfortunately, doula care is not covered by private insurance or by Medicaid in Alabama, but YOU can help make doula services accessible to families in our area by making a donation to BirthWell Partners

Enjoy that skin to skin time Dads! It’s good for you, good for the baby, good break for your partner!
And it feels good too!!! 💙💙💙

“Research shows just 30 minutes of skin to skin with dad on the first day of a newborn actually rewires dad’s brain. Stimulating many hormones especially Dopmine and Oxytocin so dads get connected to their babies and want to nurture them.” YES. Dads, get those cuddles in! ❤️

It's "Testimonial Tuesday!" This testimonial reminds us of a t-shirt we once saw, "Invite a doula to your birth-day, she brings great presence!" Birth doulas really do bring so much more than their bag of comfort tools to a birth. Doulas understand that making a connection is the key to supporting a pregnant person.

If you are planning to give birth in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, or Anniston and are interested in having a doula but thought that was not financially possible for you, give us a call. We probably have a good match for you!

Actively listening to clients is a foundational skill taught at our doula trainings. If we don't respectfully listen, we cannot build a relationship that is truly supportive of our clients

Check out this new app IRTH (like Birth but w/o the Bias) It's a free app where you can share your experience with a hospital or medical professional during the birth of your baby. It's also searchable, so you can look up your OB/midwife/hospital/pediatrician.
It's pretty new, so there is little to no data from AL, but you can be part of changing that! Please log on and add your reviews today, help future birth-givers find supportive care without BIAS! https://irthapp.com/

An important part of our mission has always been to increase access to doula trainings. If you've wanted to take a training but thought it was impossible financially, visit our website and fill out a work-study application. Applications are open NOW for our training in December!

Work-Study doulas attend our training for free or reduced cost, in exchange for attending up to 3 BWP client births. It's a great way to get training, hands-on experience and give back to the community!

Only 32% of pregnant Americans are vaccinated, with divide worsening along racial lines 10/05/2021

Only 32% of pregnant Americans are vaccinated, with divide worsening along racial lines

"Just 32 percent of pregnant women are currently vaccinated, and the racial disparities are stark. Among Asian women, 47 percent are vaccinated, as are 35 percent of white women. Among Hispanics and Latinas, only 27 percent are inoculated, and, among Black women, just 17 percent."
So what? You might say....
Here's why this is important:
Getting Covid during pregnancy raises the risk of still birth and preterm birth. Pregnant folks with Covid are also more likely to die than if they are not pregnant.

We are grateful for all of the midwives we have serving families in the Birmingham area!

"The Midwives Model of Care™ is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than contemporary obstetrics. Midwifery care is uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are health care professionals specializing in pregnancy and childbirth who develop a trusting relationship with their clients, which results in confident, supported labor and birth. While there are different types of midwives practicing in various settings, all midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. The Midwives Model of Care™ is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. The Midwives Model of Care includes:

monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother/birthing parent throughout the childbearing cycle
providing the mother/birthing parent with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
minimizing technological interventions and
identifying and referring women/birthing people who require obstetrical attention.
The application of this model has been proven to reduce to incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. " (Midwives Model of Care definition is Copyrighted © by the Midwifery Task Force, all rights reserved)
