"Doc, I think I have something in my eye." What do you think this is? (See more for the answer)
This man went to an ophthalmologist complaining of a feeling that something was stuck in his eye. It was a tick! Because it was still intact, with its head and all mouthparts attached to its body, the ophthalmologist firmly grasped the tick with a jeweler’s forceps and pulled straight out so that its head was in line with its body. The tick came out with a little pop, like a cork coming out of a bottle.
The tick was tested for a variety of diseases like Lyme disease because it had been embedded in his eye for almost two days. Turns out the tick, a lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum) larva, was disease-free and the patient made a full recovery.
