Birmingham Breast Care

I saw Dr. Thomas today. She is a "Ray of Sunshine" each time I visit. So professional, yet so personable. I also love her staff. They make a doctors visit so pleasant. From the time you walk in until you leave, everybody you come in contact with makes you forget about any concerns you may have. Thank you, Dr. Thomas, for your care and for making me feel so special . Highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs specialized breast care!

Thank you to our incredible staff — those pictured below as well as those working remotely. They are all working hard to take care of our patients during this unusual time. We appreciate them more than we can express!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our patients at this time. We are continuing to see patients on an urgent basis only while adhering to the Alabama Department of Health guidelines for social distancing.

Telehealth visits are available for some visits.

As there are still statewide and federal limitations on non-emergent surgeries, we will let each of our patients know individually when your surgery can be rescheduled.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times. We pray for the safety and health of each of you and your family members.

Please follow all of the recommended CDC and ADPH guidelines!

Please be patient as our phones are very busy and our staff are all working remotely but diligently to return your calls.

Wonderful words from Father William (Dr. Winchester's husband) this morning.

You can reach Father William directly at 205-542-7848 or [email protected] if you want or need to talk with someone during this time.

Birmingham Breast Care remains focused on the health and safety of our patients and staff as our number one priority.

In compliance with the guidelines of the CDC and the Alabama Department of Health, we will be limiting in-office appointments to urgent appointments only beginning Monday, March 23, 2020.

We have set up tele-health options which include video visits and/or phone consultations with one of our providers. This option will be appropriate for some visits.

If you have an appointment scheduled for the week of March 23rd, you will be receiving a phone call from one of our staff to discuss with you.

We will be evaluating plans on a day by day basis as the situation with coronavirus continues to evolve and further directives are given by the CDC and Department of Health.

For those with in-office visits, our policy for now is that only the patient will be allowed in the office. Everyone entering our office will have their temperature checked. If you have any respiratory issues, we ask that you do not come to the office.

Please be patient as our call volume is high. Please do not leave multiple messages as that will only delay our ability to assist you. Many of our staff are working from home as well in order to comply with mandated Health Orders. We appreciate their dedication and support of our practice and of you, our patients.

Please check with for additional information as it relates to Alabama.

We are making tele-health visits available for our patients that meet certain criteria. An e-visit can be requested securely via the patient portal. If you do not have your portal login information, please contact our office for further instructions.

Birmingham Breast Care's response to COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Birmingham Breast Care is taking measures to protect our patients and our staff in accordance with the CDC and Department of Health guidelines. The health and well-being of our patients is our number one priority and we are doing everything we can to protect one another from spreading the virus. We are following the recommendations and best practices regarding social-distancing and hygiene.

• Between each patient, each exam room will have all relevant surfaces wiped down with disinfectants that are effective against the coronavirus.
• Hand washing by all of our staff is strictly followed. Hand sanitizer is available to all staff and patients. Patients will have hand sanitizer to use before sign-in at the front desk. We are all adhering to a no handshake policy.
• Our staff will be wearing gloves and masks as appropriate.
• We are making efforts to minimize use of our communal waiting room and to enforce the requirement of social distancing. We are committed to scheduling fewer patients per hour so that when you arrive, you can go directly into a freshly cleaned exam room and minimize the possible need to sit in the community waiting room. Alternatively, if we are running off-schedule, if you would prefer, you may wait in your car, and we will be happy to, call you when an exam room is ready for you to go into directly.
• We ask that only the patient come into the office. If there are discussions that the patient desires to share with others during the appointment we will gladly allow a conference call to allow others to participate in the visit.
• We will gladly work with our patients to provide an e-visit if clinically appropriate. A request for e-visit can be done through the patient portal.
• Patients with upper respiratory symptoms (such as cough, fever, shortness of breath) should cancel and reschedule their appointments. We advise you to call your family doctor if you do have any of these symptoms. We will also check the temperature of each patient at the time of sign-in using a touchless thermometer.

While the COVID-19 situation and appropriate response remain fluid, please know that we are doing everything we can to limit your exposure and risk. You will receive a pre-screening phone call to confirm and inquire about any recent illness and/or your desire to reschedule prior to your appointment, if appropriate for your situation. As our response needs to be adjusted in order to be responsible and sensitive to the health and well-being of our patients and community, we will gladly keep you updated. We plan to update our website and social media accounts with accurate information that reflect our real-time response and adjustment to the pandemic.

We remain available to answer any questions and be of assistance in any way that we are capable. Wishing each of you health and best wishes during this uncertain and difficult period.
