Focus: Screening for is an effective way to increase early recognition and treatment. There is an opportunity to utilize and increase accessibility to these services to the community. As mental health becomes a growing issue, pharmacists need to be prepared to take the steps in
providing these services for their patients – and work with payers and policy makers to establish financially viable models of care outside of the provision of medications.

Every day, Amber Curlette ’12 puts her best foot forward for her patient-forward practice at Publix Pharmacy at Pelham Town Center — the next stop on our 95 for 95 tour.
It’s no coincidence that her pharmacy is celebrated for its premier customer service. As pharmacy manager and pharmacist, Curlette appreciates being able to spend time with her patients, not only filling prescriptions, but providing health screenings, consultations, medication therapy management services, vaccinations and more. In fact, it was Publix Pharmacy’s patient-centric philosophy that drew her to the organization.
Curlette represents all that McWhorter School of Pharmacy looks for in its graduates, her passion and heartfelt dedication shining through in everything she does.

McWhorter School of Pharmacy's theme for 2023 will be administered in three doses: faith, fellowship and pharmacy.
At Samford Pharmacy’s annual State of the School Address, Dean Michael Crouch defined those tenets as “the why, how and what we do,” while describing the state of the school as “strong.”

The Bulldogs weren't the only ones to score big at last Wednesday's 83-58 victory over the Wofford Terriers in men's basketball.
Samford Pharmacy students Kyle Parker and Rowan Rosewarne (pictured with Dean Michael Crouch) won scholarships in the amount of $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.
Parker and Rosewarne's names were randomly drawn as part of the festivities of Pharmacy Night at the Pete, wherein nearly 300 members of the McWhorter School of Pharmacy family—students, faculty, staff and alumni—gathered at the Pete Hanna Center at Samford to cheer on the Bulldogs.

Today is National Pharmacist Day, a time to recognize the important work of pharmacists, including our incredible team at McWhorter School of Pharmacy (pictured). Join us in honoring their significant impact on our health and well-being!
Two easy ways to celebrate:
1. Thank a pharmacist in person during your next visit!
2. Share some words and photos on social, using the and hashtags — or sound off in the comments!

"You crown the year with your goodness; your paths overflow with rich food" (Psalm 65:11).
Happy New Year from your friends at !

We're so grateful to have had the opportunity to lunch with these amazing pharmacists recently, who are all part of our Women in Pharmacy Leadership Group – and the next stop on our 95 for 95 tour!
Not only were we able to enjoy food and fellowship at Samford's Rotunda Club, but these alumni were able to meet the first recipient of the group’s newly formed, endowed scholarship – Sarah Davis ’24.
Seeing our alumni come together and impact the lives of our current students is a blessing. sends tremendous thanks to all of those that made this scholarship possible!

For the next stop on our 95 for 95 tour, we visited with Dr. Chandni Patel '14, who has ventured out on her own and opened Forestdale Pharmacy on Hwy. 78 in Forestdale.
With the hopes of having the ability to focus more on her patients and their health, Dr. Patel went “all in” and is now small business owner. We enjoyed hearing her story and were inspired by her determination and hard work.
The Forestdale community is lucky to have her, and we are proud to have her representing McWhorter School of Pharmacy!

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men" (Luke 2:14).

Samford Recognizes 330 Graduates During Winter Commencement Ceremonies
A degree from is a prescription for success. Congratulations to the 330 graduates honored at our Winter Commencement Ceremonies!
As keynote speaker Mechelle Wilder ’83, a Samford trustee and founding partner of ARC Realty, said, "Enjoy this opportunity you have been given to impact this world for God’s glory—and for your good.”
Samford Recognizes 330 Graduates During Winter Commencement Ceremonies In December 2022, Samford University honored 330 graduates who either earned a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree during its winter commencement ceremonies.

It was a dog day afternoon in Samford’s College of Health Sciences.
With final exams and the end-of-the-semester crunch under way, students, faculty and staff, including those from , were treated to a visit by several therapy dogs (and their humans) from Hand in Paw Animal-Assisted Therapy () on Tuesday.
Hand in Paw’s professionally trained volunteer handler and animal therapy teams aim to improve people’s day-to-day lives by visiting medical centers, schools and human service organizations throughout North Central Alabama and Tuscaloosa.
Needless to say, their visits to are always popular, where they receive a gracious — and all too fitting — Bulldog welcome.

As an end-of-the-semester treat, McWhorter School of Pharmacy Dean Michael Crouch served up some prescription-strength hot chocolate to share with students.
The secret ingredients? Marshmallows, chocolate and crushed peppermints, courtesy of admissions director Jon Parker, assistant to the dean Valerie Eades and their trusty mortars and pestles.

Our first-year pharmacy students received a dose of Christmas spirit during the annual P1 Christmas celebration.
Students were paid a visit by McWhorter School of Pharmacy's very own St. Nick, a.k.a. Bruce Waldrop, professor and academic success coordinator.

Homecoming 2022 was memorable, and the weekend was made even more unforgettable by the Class of 1992!
These alumni gathered to celebrate their 30-year reunion from McWhorter School of Pharmacy. Food, fun, fellowship and a HUGE dose of nostalgia were provided to all those that attended. We are grateful for all our alumni, and we appreciate you staying connected. You are our legacy!

We were fortunate to have former McWhorter School of Pharmacy dean Joseph Dean ’62 on campus with us recently to dedicate and formally install an etched glass artifact from 's Global Drug Information Services that was previously housed in Ingalls Hall. Given his importance to our community and how much Dean Dean means to so many, we were committed to counting this as part of our 95 for 95 Tour!
Dr. Dean spent 25 years of his career at Samford and served as dean of pharmacy from 1991-2006. During those years, his impact on the university, the school, its students and our alumni is truly immeasurable. He is a changemaker, and his accomplishments continue to make the future better for us all.

Samford’s College of Health Sciences kicked off Tuesday by recognizing two of its graduate student-athletes who were selected for the 2022 Coaches All-Southern Conference Football Team — third-year student Gavin Orr, starting right tackle for , and second-year student Nathan East, starting defensive back for the Bulldogs.
Faculty, staff and students, including cheerleader and first-year pharmacy student Adeline Lee, gathered to celebrate Orr’s and East’s accomplishments on the field and in the graduate-level classroom, while wishing them luck in Saturday’s playoff game at home against Southeastern Louisiana.
Orr admitted that managing graduate school and football is no easy feat, but thanks to time management skills gleaned from the gridiron, he has his eye set on another sort of field goal — a Pharm.D. with which to practice community or hospital pharmacy.

You'd be hard-pressed to find an alum more passionate about Samford University than Mickey Tumlin '71 — the next visit in our 95 for 95 Tour.
After graduating from McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Mickey went on to own and operate five pharmacies in the Birmingham area, while having a tremendous influence on the field of pharmacy in Alabama.
However, through it all he has stayed connected to his alma mater — specifically through Samford football, as he was on the university’s national championship football team in 1971 and has the ring to prove it! For that and myriad other reasons, this Samford Pharmacy alum could not be prouder to be a Bulldog!

Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at McWhorter School of Pharmacy!
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful" (Colossians 3:15).

One of the many benefits of our 95 for 95 Tour is that it allows us to reconnect with old friends! Truly the epitome of the Samford family, the Dunlaps (Tommie, Linda and Page) will be forever connected to McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
Tommie Dunlap graduated from Samford Pharmacy in 1976 and became the owner of a flourishing pharmacy, which served the Cullman community for many years. Page Dunlap '92 followed in her father’s footsteps and continues to make an impact statewide as a practicing pharmacist.
We are indebted to Dunlap family for their continued support and are truly honored to know them and celebrate them as part of our extended community!

David Allen is not only president of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis; he’s also a licensed pharmacist. During his recent lecture at , he offered students a "prescription for leadership."

For the next stop on our 95 for 95 Tour, we headed to Cullman to visit with our good friend and Class of 1966 alum, Wells Turner. Our visit was full of reminiscing, but our time together also provided us with an opportunity to recognize Mr. Turner for his outstanding commitment to McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Samford University and our students.
Through his words and actions, including endowing a student scholarship as part of our Century Circle initiative, it is apparent that Mr. Turner’s life was immensely impacted by his time Samford. However, in turn, our school and those who know him well are equally blessed to know this thoughtful and caring pharmacist.

We were fortunate to visit with Lyndell Brewis '62 as part of our 95 for 95 Tour! Lyn was pharmacist and later owner of Forestdale Pharmacy, where he served for more than 40 years. Not only did he faithfully serve his community, but he also served his country as part of the Public Health Service from 1962-65; a dedicated husband, father and friend to many. We are truly blessed to have such amazing people as part of our alumni community!

On Veterans Day, Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy extends its eternal gratitude and heartfelt blessings to all those — on campus and beyond — who have bravely and selflessly served our country.
"Pay to all what is owed to them... respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed" (Romans 13:7).

With its latest artifact, Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy history gallery is experiencing some growing pane.
The Crouch Family Pharmacy History Gallery recently added a large etched glass pane depicting the Bowl of Hygieia—one of the most widely recognized international symbols of pharmacy—to its collection.

Samuel Obeng joins McWhorter School of Pharmacy Faculty as Assistant Professor
American Pharmacists Month celebrates the vital and invaluable work of pharmacists — like Samuel Obeng, McWhorter School of Pharmacy's newest faculty member, who focuses his teaching on neuro-pathophysiology and neuropharmacology.
“Growing up, I was always fascinated about how medicines work and wondered why some diseases were treatable and others were not,” Obeng said. “I wanted to help provide medications to patients, especially those with diseases that were difficult to treat. I got to know about the pharmacy profession in high school and the role of pharmacists in health care, industry and government institutions. Knowing this, I decided to pursue a career in pharmacy and drug discovery.”
Samuel Obeng joins McWhorter School of Pharmacy Faculty as Assistant Professor Samuel Obeng, Ph.D., M.Phil., B.Pharm., joined Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy as an assistant professor this past summer. Based in the Department of Pharmaceutical, Social and Administrative Sciences, Obeng will focus his teaching in the areas of neuro-pathophysiology and neuropharmacology.
