Hosted by Thed Weller, we have a variety of beers to sample & our featured poet is local Poet Jamil. He'll start off our Open Mic before the stage is open to everyone & is sure to set the tone for the night ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

This program is free & open to the public. Must be 18+ to enter & 21+ to drink with proof of I.D.

2024 is a few days away! The new year brings a new season of Bards & Brews ๐Ÿป

If you're new, Bards & Brews is the Birmingham Public Library's monthly spoken word poetry program. We always host it on the 1st Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m., always offer something to sip on, & always feature local opening talent to kick off the night.

Must be 18+ to enter & 21+ with a proof of I.D. to drink.

Our resident host Thed Weller sets the tone for our Open Mics & Slams. Everyone is welcome to perform at our Open Mics with any form of spoken word poetry, but our Slam poetry competitions are closed to the 1st 10 to register with a $5 registration fee. Cash prizes are awarded to our Slam winners ๐Ÿ’ฒ

Bards & Brews returns Friday, January 5, 6:30 p.m., at the Central Library with an Open Mic to kickoff the new year ๐Ÿฅณ

Our 1st featured poet of the year is local poet Jamil Glenn! Hosted by Thed Weller!

Celebrate the new year with us by joining us for some live spoken word poetry & sampling a few beers. Everyone is welcome to perform at the open mic with any form of spoken word art.

This program is free & open to the public. Must be 18+ to enter & 21+ to drink with proof of I.D.

Tonight is The Flourish Alabama's City Wide Youth Poetry Slam happening at the Central Library & semifinals start at 5:00 p.m. & finals start at 7:00 p.m.

Sponsored by Flourish Alabama in cooperation with the Birmingham Public Library, the Central Library is hosting the WORD UP 2023 poetry festival this Friday, Dec. 8. 6 high school teams will compete for $5,000 in cash prizes by sharing original spoken poetry. The six high schools are Huffman, Jackson-Olin, Parker, Ramsay, Wenonah and Minor.

We closed out Bards & Brews last Friday night with an open mic & live music by Parker Evans!

15 talented spoken word artists took the stage to share their stories. Thank you so much for coming out & finishing Bards & Brews 2023 with us!

CBS 42 had us on the News at Noon today to talk about the last Bards & Brews of 2023! Join us tonight at 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Central Library for our last Open Mic until 2024.

Bards & Brews 2023 wraps up on Friday with our final Open Mic of the season. There will be a beer tasting & live music by Parker Evans.

Bards & Brews October Open Mic photos are in! We had a packed night at Hi-Wire Brewing Birmingham. Local dancer Nuriyah Raqs set the night with a performance to a remix of "I Put A Spell On You" ๐Ÿช„
