We've got a breakdown of how Alabama schools are spending the last round of COVID relief funds in the link below.
Statewide, based on spending plans filed with the state department of education, Alabama school districts are planning to spend 26%, or nearly $434 million, of $1.7 billion they received in COVID-19 relief funding directly on facilities. Some of the uses of relief funds include:
⢠āZen Roomsā for teachers and students in Greene County - $250,000
⢠Renovations to the central office in Tarrant City - $600,000
⢠New athletic complex in Clarke County - $5.6 million
⢠New elementary school in Limestone County - $7 million

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) announce the availability of 30 scholarships for residents in Alabama who want to pursue a technical education certificate or associate degree in programs related to the automotive manufacturing industry.
Funding is available to award a total of 30 $1,800 scholarships to students who are enrolled in a program at an Alabama community college that is associated with automotive manufacturing careers. Interested students with at least a 2.5 GPA can learn more information and apply directly through the website: dreamitdoitalabama.com/aama/. The deadline to apply is March 31.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY: The Black Belt Community Foundation is calling on all community-based organizations across the Black Belt to take advantage of their latest arts grant opportunity.
Whether your organization provides arts education or integrates arts into traditional subjects, BBCF wants to support you. Applications are due March 18.
This month, they will host five Virtual Grant Seeking Workshops. Applicants *must* attend one of the five workshops to be considered for a 2022 arts grant.

Alabama is one of 17 states plus the District of Columbia that require students not reading on grade level by the end of third grade to be retained. The bill to delay the retention portion of the Alabama Literacy Act was vetoed by Gov. Ivey last May.
