Birmingham Business Alliance has launched its Small Business Advisory Services to help curate a marketplace between buyers and suppliers, get buyers and suppliers ready to do business and drive collective impact on jobs and dollars throughout Birmingham.

Generously funded by Prosper and coordinated with Interise, The Alliance’s Small Business Advisory Services will work with a series of cohorts, over six-to-eight-month periods, with the goal of serving 250 companies and creating 1,300 direct jobs over the next five years. The program will provide customized solutions designed to prepare local companies to do business with the region’s largest employers, many of which are members of The Alliance.

“I was 14 years old in line at a Starbucks, and I overheard the girl in front of me tell her friend that she was going to major in public relations,” said Karla Khodanian, UAB communication studies alumna. “I went home that night, and I Googled ‘public relations’ and landed on the Wikipedia page for it. I thought it sounded amazing.”

Karla never wavered from her newfound passion for PR and storytelling when she arrived at UAB and went on to graduate with a B.A. in Communication Studies with a public relations specialization in 2014.

Congratulations to our friends at Gateway Management Company for the opening of their Cherry Woods Apartments!

Cherry Woods is an affordable apartment facility for elderly residents of Birmingham. All 52 units were spoken for within the first 60 days of the apartments being listed.

Thank you Gateway Management for asking us to be a part of the ribbon-cutting, we were so happy to be there and meet some of the wonderful residents of Cherry Woods!

Today is National Beer Day, and you can't tell the story of Birmingham without talking about beer.

Here at the Alliance, we're very proud of our small business programs. Of course, most of you know about our Supplier Scale program in partnership with Prosper, but we also engage small businesses in our region in lots of other ways.

We also work with the inclusive procurement council, in which our small business team mentors small women and minority-owned businesses in order to prepare them to work with larger customers in the region.

We also meet with new small business owners every day to better understand their challenges and help them succeed and grow.

When our local small businesses grow, everyone grows and our community thrives!

The World Games 2022 Birmingham are getting closer and closer! As we near the 100 day milestone we want to highlight some of the benefits the World Games will bring to Birmingham this summer.

Over the 11 days of the World Games Birmingham will play host to 3600 international athletes from 100 countries competing in 34 unique sports. The games will attract an estimated 500,000 spectators, which will have an estimated economic impact of $256 million for our great city!

In addition to all of the wonderful people who will visit Birmingham, the World Games is working with local diverse and minority owned businesses and vendors. So not only will there be impact from visitors, but money invested by the World Games will have greater impact in Birmingham because it's being invested with small and local businesses!

We can't wait for the games to start, and to help show Birmingham to the world!
