Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed in the United States during the month of May and recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the culture, history, and achievements of the United States.
This recognition is especially important as Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are still facing increasing hate crimes.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862 when a vastly outnumbered Mexican force defended the city from the forces of Napoleon III. This holiday became popular in the United States Latinx community thanks to the defeat preventing Napoleon III from entering the American Civil War on the side of the Confederacy.
Over time the holiday has been infused with additional traditions from later Mexican immigrants, creating what we know today.
