The award, which she also received last year, will help cover her expenses as she presents her research findings at the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) conference in Philadelphia and the American Society of Preventive Oncology (ASPO) conference in Chicago in March.

𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, 𝐑𝐃𝐍, has been honored with the 2024 Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award from the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP)!
Dr. Davis received the NDEP South Central Region’s Outstanding Dietetic Educator Award in the Coordinated Program category. The NDEP is a group within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics whose mission is to advocate for and empower educators and preceptors to lead the profession of nutrition and dietetics.

Dr. Pearson, an alumnus of our program, brings a wealth of experience to our team. He has previously served as a Clinical Dietitian at the Birmingham VA Health Care System and as an Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics at Samford University. Additionally, he currently practices as a clinical dietitian at the UAB Hospital's multidisciplinary ALS clinic.
In his free time, Keith enjoys hiking, birdwatching and is a passionate basketball fan. He is also a proud husband and father of three beautiful children.

Dr. Gower has been an invaluable member of our school for an impressive period of over 𝟐𝟕 years, and has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. Her remarkable contributions have been recognized by UAB, as she was honored as one of the Outstanding Women of our institution in 2013!

Shoutout to BNW student 𝐊𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐲, who totally rocked it at the UAB Expo hosted by the Service Learning and Undergraduate Research! Kylie is mentored by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧-𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫.
Her poster described the study purpose and protocol, and shared some early data from the first cohort of participants enrolled in a project to describe meal timing and body composition of postpartum women. We can't wait to see what they discover from this study!

Biobehavioral Nutrition and Wellness Major - UAB - Nutrition Welcome to the B.S. in Biobehavioral Nutrition and Wellness at the University of Alabama at Birmingham! We go beyond 'you are what you eat' and students dive deep into the relationship between human health, mindfulness, nutrition, metabolism and food as medicine.
Our students are doing fantastic things!

- PhD student 𝐀𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭 has had a paper, "Leptin Resistance in Children with In Utero Exposure to Maternal Obesity and Gestational Diabetes," accepted to Pediatric Obesity.
- PhD student 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐘𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧, MS received an Equity and Inclusivity Scholarship from the American Nutrition Association (ANA) and was awarded the UAB Graduate School's "GSG Professional Development and Travel Award."

We are excited to announce the promotions of 𝐋𝐲𝐬𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, to Professor with tenure and 𝐀𝐦𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐬, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, to Associate Professor with tenure.
Dr. Goss - an alumna of our program - conducts randomized clinical trials to examine the effects of diet quality and macronutrient composition on risk factors of chronic metabolic diseases such as obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and type 2 diabetes. The goal of her research is to identify effective, sustainable, and non-invasive dietary means of preventing and reversing disease with metabolic origins.
Dr. Norian’s lab is studying the effects of diet and obesity on immune responses to renal cancer to better understand how these affect the function of cancer immunotherapies. They believe that beneficial dietary changes may be able to improve cancer patient outcomes.
