Our brilliant TRIO Teach Scholars were locked into a room that required them to solve a series of puzzles within 60 minutes to accomplish a goal and find the key to unlock the room. They had to race against the clock and decipher clues to find their way out of the escape room. We are glad to say all 4 teams ESCAPED! Team Williams made it out by the hair in their chin with 4 seconds remaining on the clock!
TRIO Teach Scholars visited The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA. The memorial was opened to the public in October 1961 as an authentically restored World War II battleship, a National Historic Landmark, a museum collecting and interpreting all ships named NORTH CAROLINA, and a memorial honoring the 11,000 North Carolinians of all branches of service who gave their lives in World War II.
A little 🏝️ and 🌊 is always good therapy for the soul. Our scholars explored the natural beaches of Wrightsville during our 2023 NC Graduate School Tour. Exposure is important to our scholars and many of them experience a lot of “first times” with us.
Luxe Soulfood & Cocktails is a premiere soulfood restaurant located in the heart of Greensboro, North Carolina. This restaurant is Black owned and operated. Great recommendation from our colleagues at NC A&T TRIO Programs, Chantal Flemings. During lunch a faculty member from NC A&T Graduate Programs shared resources how scholars would be compensated while getting a FREE Master’s of Engineering.
Our Scholars are constantly exposed to different cuisines that represents different cultures around the world. As they navigate through their college career we want to produce a well rounded scholar who has be exposed to various cultural beliefs and dining experiences . We recently dined at local’s favorite. Indochine is a Wilmington's authentic Thai & Vietnamese restaurant nestled on a corner lot with a secret garden inside their restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect!
During our Graduate School Tour, we expose our scholars to various styles of food and support small business. We supported a Black owned restaurant in Wilmington, NC. ON THYME RESTAURANT is Wilmington's local tavern providing burgers, seafood and more with a twist. They have become a staple in the area for their food and beautiful mural outside of their restaurant.
Known for being a pastime that’s endured for centuries as both a hobby and an occupation, painting remains to be one of the most revered and enjoyable hobbies today. TRIO Teach Scholars enjoyed an evening of painting during a self-guided paint session. Don’t worry they are not amateurs to painting. Check out their masterpieces.
UNCW started as a college center in 1947 grew to a two-year junior college in 1952 and a four-year senior college 11 years later. Since that time, Wilmington College, which became the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1969, has emerged as the educational centerpiece of the region.
At UNCW’s Graduate School they offer innovative programs and provide opportunities for advanced research. You can extend your research beyond the classroom through collaborative community partnerships. They have flexible graduate programs to help you succeed. UNCW offer full-time, part-time, hybrid or online programs. Scholars explored UNCW's doctoral and master programs with Coran and Paul with the Graduate School.
Mr. Oscar was a jewel we stumbled upon during our visit to the cathedral. Some of the best storytelling you could have heard.
In the realm of dining, etiquette refers to proper manners and behavior in a formal dining situation. Table manners play an important part in making a favorable impression. Tonight TRIO Teach Scholars were shown dining etiquettes led by staff. This is essential to any scholar in their own development as they prepare to enter into the workforce. Many of their interviews will end over dinner with executives.
