in my early 20s, when I was competing at a high level in crossfit and also weightlifting and also the grid league - someone commented about how I would “be much better at any one of those things if I just focused on one of them instead of trying to do them all” 🙃
he didnt say this to my face, someone told me he said this and for a while it actually really bothered me. i was offended that he thought I was “unfocused” or “scattered” in my goals. or maybe my pride was actually offended that he thought I wasn’t as good as I could be I any of those things.
but… HE WAS RIGHT. and I never forgot it.
and now I really LOVE thinking about that statement.
in fact, wear it with a badge of honor now.
when I think about it, I spent 14 years of my life hyperfocused on becoming a great ball player, I did ONE sport seriously for all of my adolescent/young adult life and loved every single second of it. by the time I was 22 years old, I was done trying to specialize and absolutely loved that my body had the fitness, capability, and athleticism to try many different things, even if ill never be “great” at any one of them. now as a 35 year old mom of 3, I still feel the same.
in fact, now I find myself seeking out even more NEW things, things that ive never tried before, things that spark my interest simply with the intent of “I wonder what thats like”
or “let me see if I can do this”
and most importantly HOW BLESSED AM I TO PICK UP ANYTHING I WANT TO AND BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT.
and that ladies and gentlemen, is how we ended up on a gravel bike 🥰

some of the best seasons and we’re just getting started ✨
3 under 4 was a lot. and I’d do it all over in a heartbeat just the same ♥️✨
little vacation run on the Dutchess County Rail Trail before a full day with family 😛✨
follow me on to stay up to date on all my workouts 😚
this hit me today after Murphy asked to come lift with me today when I said I was going out to the garage.
how many days of her life (and all my kids) did I head out into the garage with them thinking “let’s see what they let me do today” knowing I would likely need to pause, rock, feed them, or sometimes abandon my workout altogether.
now they’re old enough, more self sufficient, and I’m confident I won’t have to do any of those things but they’re still here and it’s a different conversation. one of “can I join you?” “show me how!” “is this you do this?”
your reminder that it matters. even when it’s hard, even when it would be easier not to, even when you’re not sure what you’ll be able to accomplish today.
one day it’ll be easier and in the process you’re laying the foundation for both of you, together 🤍
