Making some progress!!

First night of the Baggo league! Benton, Arkansas Parks and Recreation

Something to float and a great opportunity to see something a little different than you may be used to!!

H LAKE and the CHAMPION CYPRESS trip is on for Saturday October 8 at the lower White River Refuge. This trip is open to anyone with their own canoe or kayak. We will do a short paddle on H Lake and a short hike to see the Champion Bald Cypress. Please post if you are interested in this trip. You will need to purchase a permit from the White River Refuge to join this trip. The permit is available for purchase at

It is $20.00 for the annual pass. That’s a lot to pay for one day, but if we come back we won’t need to pay again. After you buy your permit, you can print it out or just have it handy on your phone.

We will meet Saturday Oct. 8 at 10AM at the Ethel AR country store. It’s the only store in Ethel and they make good sandwiches for lunch if you’re so inclined.

This is a really fun trip. It’s a full day. It’s a little over an hour and a half drive to Ethel from Little Rock. We will spend about 3 hours on H Lake and about an hour on the Cypress tree trail.

This trip will not be canceled or rescheduled. I hope to see you there!

Last kayak class for the season-big thanks to Benton, Arkansas Parks and Recreation and to all the parents bringing their kiddos, we had a great time! To all of our participants be SAFE have FUN out there!

Super cool day on the river with Arkansas Game and Fish and The Nature Conservancy I learned a bunch thanks to all that taught and participated !!! I even had time to tidy up a bit!

We want to THANK everyone who came out this season and enjoyed the beautiful Saline River! We are temporarily closed during the dry season of the river.

If you are floating remember Lyle Park access is temporarily closed getting a much needed face lift. 😁 You will not be able to take out at Lyle Park nor Saline River Canoe now that we are closed. 😕

If you put in at Peeler Bend your take outs are either Riverside Grocery or River Street. If you take out at Riverside it is a short walk about 200 yards up the North Fork. If you take out at River Street be very careful under the I30 bridges, there is construction debris and the channel changes per their construction, we suggest portaging that area.

Unfortunately the river is still above our threshold 😲 If you are gonna venture out today be careful of the farm bridge (see comment below). Oh And Cowper says hi and wants to remind ya to be safe and don’t do stupid stuff!!

Wish it wasn’t so but the river is going to be too high for Saturday so make plans to do other fun Saturday things. We’re watching the gauge for Sunday but not looking great.

Saline River current conditions and float guide

Attention: You WILL HAVE TO PORTAGE. There is a farm bridge located at latitude 34.6003 longitude -92.6192 or at the confluence of the north fork and the main channel roughly about a mile above Lyle Park. Above 6ft on the Benton gauge https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=07363000 the bridge does not have enough air space to go under and a mandatory portage is required.

Good morning! We will be open today and renting/shuttling boats however due to the levels we will be offering the high water float only.
