This is what we find inside Ponderosa Pine with co-dominant stems (where two stems grow together, or one stem splits into two). The two stems are weakly attached to one another, and the space between the them can start to decay.

I just wrapped up this project in Northwest Crossing — pruning several large, mature pines for fire-wise compliance.
A lot of people assume reducing overhang near a home means removing entire limbs, but that’s not always the case. When a tree has enough healthy green growth, a good arborist can often create the clearance AND preserve the tree’s natural shape and appearance. It just takes getting up in the tree and making cuts in the right places.

Structural pruning isn’t just about looks—it’s about long-term tree health.
These crossing branches were already starting to rub, girdle, and create decay pockets. Left alone, that would have led to dieback and structural weakness.
We caught it early, removed the problem limbs, and set this tree up for healthier growth 🌳
Lots of Central Oregonians aren’t aware that their aspens have started to decline due to Hornet Moth. These aspens were looking healthy, with no signs of decline in the canopy, and full, healthy looking spring buds.
This type of root damage can cause them to fall over in the wind, snow, or on their own.
Have a Certified Arborist check on the health of your aspens.
