Some concerns about the proposed DEC legislation. 1. NYS is in the process of changing the rule as to what wetlands and their boundaries are and may not have a definitive answer prior to passing the legislation. 2. These changes will quite possibly change lakefront use and boundaries for homeowners and businesses. 3. Although the focus is currently Burtis Bay, other areas may be affected as well. 4. Care of the lake may be affected in other areas to incorporate care of wetlands. The rumor of DEC action for reclassification has already started to negatively affect real estate sales. 5. Although property values may go down due to DEC encroachment, taxes may stay the same or go up. If you can't make the meeting, please let your village, town and county representatives know your opinion.
