What Every Cat Owner Should Know About Dental Care For Cats
Dental disease is a reality for most cats. By age four, many cats have significant gingivitis and many also have periodontal disease. It is a slow progressing but serious disease that causes pain and affects the overall health and wellbeing. Cats will not show signs of oral discomfort. Because the pain associated with dental problems comes on slowly over time, they simply learn to live with it. That is why it is important that all cats see a veterinarian annually to assess their oral health.

Whats in a Comprehensive Exam? And why does my pet need one?
Now you are probably wondering what a comprehensive exam includes?
Well this is very similar to what you would get at your doctors office when you show up for a physical exam. They start off with a weigh in and then check you from head to toe only in your pets case it would from nose to tail!
During an exam we check your pet's eyes, ears, and teeth to make sure everything looks healthy. They're also listen your pets' heart for any irregular rhythms, feel their belly, and do an orthopedic exam to make sure joints are arthritis free.
We will also update any necessary vaccines at this time, prescribe preventatives or other medications, discuss blood work if it's recommended, and answer any questions you may have.
If you have any questions on when your pet last had a comprehensive exam be sure to contact us!
We often get asked about what a comprehensive exam entails and how often a dog or cat should schedule one. Every 6 months? Every Year?
Well that is a great question so here are some guidelines to keep in mind and of course consult with your vet to make sure you have the best strategy for your pet.
Puppies and kittens under 1 year: every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks old.
Dogs and cats 1-7 years old: once a year (at a minimum)
Senior dogs and cats 7-10+ years old: twice a year.
Saturday cuteness overload! Australian Shepherds, 11 weeks old
Here for vaccines ❤️🐾
