Join us for Explorations Academy’s 3rd Annual Fall Harvest Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser — a community celebration of flavor, fun, and fall!

Whatcom’s Newest Classroom Is Wild.

Thanks to Whatcom Land Trust, the Jay family, Whatcom Million Trees, Whatcom Transportation Authority, and Explorations Academy, 13 acres of wetland forest and salmon habitat on Kinney Creek, a tributary of the Sumas River in Whatcom County, WA, have been protected forever. This land will host a living laboratory for ecological restoration, climate resilience research, sustainable agriculture, and developing connections with nature as a field campus for Explorations Academy students.

Thank you to everyone who came out last weekend to support the Bellingham Bells and Explorations! A special highlight of the evening was when Michael Jay -- former property owner and generous donor of our new field campus -- lead the crowd in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." He is a pretty big fan of environmental education, but he might be an ever bigger Bells fan! We are so grateful for his continued support.

So much fun welcoming this wildly inspiring group of Western students to our new field campus to learn about the land and explore ways they could partner with our students in the future!

Senior Spotlight on Octavious Bass, who was awarded the Bellingam Sister Sister Peace Grant to travel to Japan for a month and conduct citizen diplomacy. Octavious used this opportunity to study a beautiful art form known as ukishoebori. He shared about the history of the craft and some of his incredible first attempts during his capstone presentation! We can’t wait to see where Octavious’ passion and creativity will take lead him. Next stop, Whitman College!

Explorations is partnering with Habitat Restore for a student-driven Trashion Show this Friday June 6th for First Friday Art Walk! Come see the creative ways 6- 12th grade students are upcycling trash into fashion.

Next Friday, June 6th, the Habitat Store is holding extended hours for you to shop, save, and support affordable homes in Whatcom County!

What's the art part of this Art Walk? Students from Explorations Academy will be here presenting a Pop-Up Trashion Show featuring outfits made from recycled items from our store! These students have been working hard all quarter on their sustainable creations and we can't wait to see how they've given our items a new life.
