Sometimes I’m tempted, but I doubt most parents would appreciate the results.

Finally got around to finishing Kitchen Confidential. I’ll say that it was a hit for a reason and definitely worth the read, not just by people with aspirations of culinary adventure, but for anybody who has the capacity to get lost in a pursuit (a craft or art or passion of any kind) that they love enough to let it consume them. Bourdain became a sort of Byronic rock star not because cooking is so universally seductive, but because he threw himself at it and really lived the life he wanted with an Epicurean zeal.
Ultimately it is sexy because he took Bukowski’s advice. “Find what you love and let it kill you.”
We should all be so lucky to live that sort of life. It is only a shame that he didn’t live his longer.

Exactly!
It’s cool to say “I’m a writer,” and then leave all mysteriously.
Much less cool to elaborate. “Well, I write about a werewolf, but really it’s more of a metaphor for trauma and suppressed trauma and how that can extend to self harm and addiction. And I do that by telling a story in two parallel timelines (World War 1 and Prohibition and the Pacific Northwest in the 1990’s) in which my protagonist suffers loss and abuse and falls on love, eventually become a Chandlerian (I hope) Hardboiled private detective who smokes too much and showers too little…”
So yeah… “I’m a writer.”

New week, new Chapter. Chapter 8 starts off Part 2 of the novel, in which we dip into historical fiction, flashing back to the early 1900’s for some werewolf origin story and some insight into my my protagonist is as thoroughly screwed up as he is. Enjoy.
