Happy Monday! This morning, we are very excited to announce our partnership with The Garden Farmers Market of Patchogue which will begin on Saturday, October 8th. We are thrilled for this opportunity to collaborate with and support the small business community!

As we will still be undergoing changes and transitions for 2023, our Garden Center hours will be limited to align with the Farmers Market, which will be Saturdays & Sundays from 10am-2pm.

Daisy Garden has been a staple in the Bayport-Blue Point community for 40+ years. Starting as a small retail center, Tom had a passion and a vision for what it could be, and he turned it into a reality alongside a loyal team of employees, some of which have been part of this journey since the very beginning. His loss to the business and community is irreplaceable but has also brought the Daisy Garden and Stemmler family together in a beautiful way to carry out the season that he started for us.

It is bittersweet to announce that this successful and memorable chapter of Daisy Garden is nearing the end. However, the end of this chapter means the start of a new beginning for Tom’s daughter, who has a vision of her own for what the future of the business will be. She is embracing this opportunity to continue her dad’s legacy and will be using the time in which we are closed to re-structure and transition into something that can be shared with you all in 2023.

The store will be open through mid-September, and we will be offering new discounts and deals weekly. Starting today, everything in the store will be marked at 20% off, except for our Annuals and Tropicals, which will continue to be 50% off as part of our normal summer sale.

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we share the passing of Tom Stemmler, the owner and brains behind the Daisy Garden operation. His passion for growing started at a young age, as he worked for his parents who owned and operated Stemmler Florist. At age 26, he decided to take these skills and build something of his own, while keeping the existing business in the family.

Daisy Garden was established nearly 40 years ago, starting as a small retail space that has expanded into a multi-functional garden center – offering home grown plants, herbs, vegetables, landscape design, wholesale and more. Tom took great pride in being hands on in his business and with customers, he cared deeply for providing a service of high quality – from the plants he grew to the landscaping jobs he took on. He loved to support local businesses and filled our communities with bright colors.

Although his shoes cannot be filled, we will do our best to continue on and make him proud. We ask for everyone’s patience and understanding as we work on filling in the gaps.

We know how much Tom was loved and respected within our local and surrounding communities. For anyone who would like to pay their respects to his family, service information is provided below:

Currently, we are offering 20% off on all Espoma fertilizers. This deal will last through Sunday. It’s crucial to get one last feeding in before the stressful winter season; not for growth but for strong root structure and development for both lawns and shrubs. To be used at recommended rates for Fall.

Also, a quick reminder that on Saturday, October 30th we will begin our annual 1/2 price tree and shrub sale; this continues while supplies last. There is still plenty of specialty varieties that are of great value. We do this to make room for Christmas items which start arriving by mid-November.

Come by for 20% off on our Gold Mop Cypress! 3 gallon pots normally going for $28.50, this week $22.80. There are few plants as bright yellow as these when planted in full sun. Easy to grow and quick to size up. Left untrimmed will mature at 5’ tall and 4’ wide. We recommend trimming annually to keep them at about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. This discount applies through Sunday!

This week we’re offering 20% off on our homegrown Rudbeckia Little Henri; also known as “Quilled Dwarf Rudbeckia.” This late season bloomer matures at 3’ tall and about 2’ tall wide and is a real carefree charmer. Noninvasive and reliably winter hardy here on Long Island.

This week we’re offering 20% off of our custom potting soil mix - with 4 sizes available from 8 qt to the large 3.8 cu.ft. Bale. We have been using this potting soil in our growing operation for 30 years, folks travel for miles to purchase it.
Best used for annuals, herbs and veggies; also a great house plant soil. It is light weight and porous, which means it drains very well. The most popular size is the 2 cu.ft. bag; normally $12.00 this week only $9.60. A great value and it will last years before going bad.

This week we’re offering our home grown Hostas at 20% off. These shade loving perennials are perfect accent plants for difficult spots. We grow about 30 different varieties, from the miniature gemstone to the giant empress wu.

We have been extremely busy in our peak season, while also handling increased workloads due to a shortage in staff. I know many of you look forward to our weekly discounts, and we plan to start this back up, as our busiest time of year dwindles down a bit. This being said, we are also looking for help!

Now is time to be fertilizing your trees and shrubs. Hollytone is best used for most evergreen shrubs and plantone for deciduous shrubs. Best done within the next 3 weeks and won’t take you long at all. It will go a long way for plant vigor and helps combat against disease and drought later in the summer.

We’re carrying a new leaf compost this year; you can use it for almost anything but especially useful for transplanting trees and shrubs, also great for amending weak soils. Fresh nursery stock arriving daily and perennials from our own greenhouses... and let’s not forget those cool weather veggies!

Plant of the week is our Poinsettia Picasso - a Daisy Garden favorite! Every leaf is a bit different and has excellent holding ability in the house. **Remember: Poinsettias like to dry out a bit between watering and don’t like standing in water.

Plant of the week is our homegrown tricolor polka dot plant. The botanical name is Hypoestis, extremely versatile, this time of year it is best indoors in a sunny spot. Will grow to 18” tall so it’s best to trim as needed. Very similar to coleus when it comes to care.

Come by to take advantage of our annual 50% off tree and shrub sale! It’s that time of year where we need to start making room for incoming Christmas trees - which will be arriving in just 3 short weeks! This sale will continue from now through then.

This week our plant of the week is Kale Redbor. Redness and curling of this kale is enhanced by the cold weather. Grows to about 20” tall in the garden and is not fussy about anything. Also suitable as an edible garnish.

This week through Sunday we are offering 20% off our home grown Pachysandra transplants; these are in trays of 20 and are normally $8.50 per tray, this week only $6.80. These plants perform well in shade and are deer proof.

Plant of the week is our home grown Lysmachia or golden creeping Jenny, a perennial in our neck of the woods. Does best in a sunny spot, great for ground cover or accent plant.

Plant of the week: Begonia grandis ‘Alba’

This is a hardy begonia that blooms in the garden August thru end of October. Likes part shade, grows 24” tall and wide. Combines well with other shade loving perennials like hosts and anemones. It is late to emerge in the spring, so be sure to label it or remember where you planted it... as it does not emerge until May.

Don’t forget to come by this weekend (and today) for 20% off on all ceramic Halloween figurines. Designed so that they can be lit up at night with a simple bulb and socket. These unique Halloween decorations are hand painted and will last for many years.

Our plant of the week is Dianthus; which will continue to bloom during frosty nights. Plant in full to part sun, and will be there to welcome early spring.

This week we’re offering 20% off on all Hollytone. October is a great time to fertilize Evergreens to keep fertility going and promote a healthy root system. We have 4 sizes available.

Our plant of the week is Hydrangea que. Ruby Slippers. Sometimes called oak leaf Hydrangea. This one blooms in June and July with white blooms quickly turning red and persist through August. Then in the fall the foliage is a bright red before falling off. Sun or part shade will grow to 4’ tall and wide.

Plant of the week is Celosia Dracula, blood red blooms are perfect for the fall season. Great for autumn planters, doesn’t mind the cooler nights, and will bloom through November. Combine them with yellow mums or white ornamental Kale for vivid displays.
