It is with deep regret that the chiefs office of the Islip Fire Department announces the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Jesse B. During his tenure with the FDNY, Jesse served as an EMT in Station 10 (Manhattan) and Station 47 (Far Rockaway), Engine 264 (Far Rockaway) and Ladder 134 (Far Rockaway).
In addition to his career duties with the FDNY, Jesse was also a beloved 12-year volunteer firefighter with Engine Company 1 of the Islip FD. Jesse served as 2nd Lieutenant in 2018-2019 and 1st Lieutenant in 2020-2021, and as a member of the Islip Wolves Drill Team.
Funeral arrangements are in progress and will follow in a later post.

Just before 10pm last night, multiple 911 calls came in for a reported vehicle into the water at the Bay Shore Marina.
Bay Shore FD along with Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance and the Suffolk County Police Department responded.
Chief of Department Kevin Butler was the first arriving BSFD unit and confirmed a vehicle had driven off the dock with the handicapped occupant still inside. The driver was incoherent and unable to exit the vehicle.
Due to its positioning, the vehicle was extremely unstable and continuing to slide into the water.
Crew members from Rescue 8 immediately secured the vehicle using a winch. This allowed enough time for BSFD Dive Team personnel to enter the water and begin extricating the driver. After getting the drivers door open and cutting the seatbelt, the driver was freed from the slowly sinking vehicle and placed into a stokes basket and removed from the water.
The driver was treated by Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance and transported to South Shore University Hospital.
BSFD and Islip FD heavy rescue units secured the vehicle until a heavy duty tow truck was able to safely remove it.
BSFD was assisted on scene by the West Islip and Islip Fire Department SCUBA teams.
Also on scene was personnel from SCPD Marine Bureau, Town of Islip Harbor Patrol, Town of Islip Park Rangers, Town of Islip Haz-Mat, Town of Islip Highway Dept.

Shortly before 3pm the Bay Shore Fire Dept was activated for a structure fire in the 900 block of Manor Lane. Upon arrival of Assist Chief Roy Ekelund Jr., a working fire was transmitted and mutual aid companies were requested. Hampered by heavy winds and dangerous fire conditions inside the home, all firefighters were removed from the structure and quickly set up for an exterior attack, to knock down the rapidly advancing fire. The occupant and his dog safely exited the home prior to fire department arrival. There were no reported injuries. Mutual aid was provided by West Islip FD, Brentwood FD and Islip FD. Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue also responded and provided EMS stand by and rehab. The scene was turned over to the Town of Islip Fire Marshal’s office, Building Inspector, HazMat and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad. (photos by AJ Ippolito)

We are under another winter storm warning for tomorrow. With an additional 5-8 inches expected on top of what we already have from the last storm, this fire hydrant will be completely covered. The delay created by having to dig out a fire hydrant can mean the difference between life and death. Please help us help you and clear the fire hydrants near your home.
Help us help you! With all the recent snow and the potential for some more on the way, please make sure your house numbers are visible from the street. Also remember to clear the snow from around the closest fire hydrant to your home. While you have the shovel out it’s a great idea to clear the snow from your dryer vent and gas meters.
