Toys for Tots 2015
Almost time!!
IT's OUR FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR!!! TOYS FOR TOTS SEASON!
Dear Santa’s Helpers,
Once again, we are collecting gifts on behalf of The Long Island Propane Gas Association & Toys for Tots. Each year, our organization assists individuals in our community and without donation from individuals like you, this would not be possible. Donations help sustain Toys for Tots and benefit the community in which we serve.
Last year over 70,000 children in Suffolk County received toys through this program, but unfortunately there are many more in need. This year we expect the need to be greater than last, so we really need your help.
Now through December 10th we are collecting NEW, UNWRAPPED GIFTS at our plant location, 111 South 4th Street Bay Shore, NY 11706
Don't have time to drop one off? WE'LL COME TO YOU! Call 631-586-2264 or email [email protected] to schedule a pick up.
Don't have time to shop? Our in-house elves would be happy to shop for you with your monetary donation! Please make out a check to Starlite Propane, address as ATTN: Elaina, Toys for Tots. We usually do a mass shopping on Black Friday & Cyber Monday, so coupon codes are appreciated also!
Last year we collected over 300 gifts, but I know we can do better. It is our goal to DOUBLE that this year.
Please open your hearts and give the gift of JOY to our LOCAL children.
Warm Wishes,

ITS SNOWING!!!! Now what?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) suggest the following safety tips for proper care of propane tanks in severe snowstorms:
*Use a broom instead of a shovel when clearing snow off the tank or around the exposed piping, regulator, gauges, or tubing.
*When clearing the roof, avoid shoveling snow onto exposed piping around the propane regulator near the building or onto the propane tank and piping, as well as any meters or other piping that may be in use.
*Check regulator vents on the propane system to be sure they are free of snow, ice or water that could freeze. (A two-stage system has a regulator on the tank and at the entrance of the propane piping to the building; a single regulator is on the tank.) If a regulator vent is clogged with ice or snow, contact your propane supplier immediately.
*Check all gas appliance exhaust and combustion air vents, such as dryer or furnace vents, to be sure they are kept clear of snow and ice.
The National Propane Gas Association is the trade association representing the propane gas industry.

BIG thank you to our driver, Jason, for thinking of us office ladies on Mother's Day! We love you!
Our drivers sure know how to spoil us office ladies! We're very appreciative of our pickles! (Especially the pregnant one 😍)
While we are trying to get to every one of our customers who request deliveries, please remember that heat and hot water customers are our priority when a winter storm is looming.
Please be sure to have a gauge reading prior to calling so we can best route your delivery. *And for the customers who have deliveries after a snowfall, it is very important to shovel a path to the tank so our drivers can make a delivery as quickly and safely as possible.*
As you know, snow slows down everything. We want to make sure we are able to make ALL our scheduled deliveries in a timely manner--and if we had to shovel a path to each tank we delivered to, it would it would significantly slow down our drivers and we wouldn't be able to make all the deliveries that were needed for that day.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding! Stay warm & safe!
We love our customers!

Hurricane Safety - Before The Hurricane Hits:
*Keep photos or video of your home, its contents and other personal property in a separate location, such as in a safe deposit box
*Photocopy personal IDs, credit cards, insurance policies and other important documents and keep them in a watertight container with your emergency supplies
*Fuel and service family vehicles and consider investing in a fuel transfer tank
*Prepare to cover all windows and doors with shutters or plywood
*Secure or bring in lightweight objects such as garbage cans, garden tools, toys and lawn furniture
*Keep extra cash on hand for emergency purposes
*Develop a family emergency plan, detailing how family members are to evacuate the house and where to meet
Plan to leave immediately if you:
*Live in a mobile home (unsafe in high winds, even if securely fastened to the ground)
*Live on the coastline, on an offshore island or near a river or flood plain
*Live in a high-rise building (hurricane winds are stronger at higher elevations http://ow.ly/RGAl3
After a devastating blow to the East from Superstorm Sandy in October of 2012, residents and homeowners on the Atlantic coast should always be prepared for the Hurricane Season. Officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) advise residents in Atlantic and Gulf Coast states to be prepared throughout the hurricane season, which typically occurs during the period of June 1st through November 30th.
Thankfully, many tropical storms that are generated in the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and other points sometimes fizzle out before making landfall when they travel northward. However, Long Island does experience hurricanes and coastal storms. You should always be prepared for emergencies. Here are some basic tips for hurricane preparedness.
If you have to evacuate your home due to a tropical storm, hurricane or flood, turn off the service valve on your propane container and the shutoff valve on all propane appliances.
Secure propane equipment, tanks, and cylinders during a severe weather by tying them to stationary objects, or, if time allows it, contact your local propane service center to ask them to move your tank to higher ground.
If your propane tank becomes dislodged or you believe there is a gas leak in your home, evacuate your house as soon as possible and contact your local fire department from a safe location.
Use extreme caution when returning to your home after a tropical storm or hurricane, and contact your local propane service center to schedule a safety inspection.
Did you know that water can damage your propane system?
If flooding is predicted for your area, turn off the gas valve at the cylinder or tank BEFORE the water rises. Do not turn the gas back on until the gas system and all appliances have been checked by a qualified service technician. AFTER A FLOOD, contact a qualified service technician to check your propane system and appliances. A qualified service technician will likely have to do some or all of the following
Replace the regulator and/or pressure relief valves if there are signs of water, dirt, debris, or corrosion.
Replace the automatic controls and appliance regulators on any gas appliances that have been under water.
Inspect and (if necessary) replace manual shut-off valves in gas piping, and perform tank testing of the system.
Clean appliance main and pilot burners and replace pilot orifices.
Something doesn’t look right…
If your tank has shifted position; gas lines are bent, broken, or damaged; or you see something else unusual about your system or appliance, turn off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, if it is safe to do so. Then contact your Star-Lite Propane Service Department as soon as possible at 631-586-2264.

UPDATE: Propane -- contains no ethanol!
It's an important distinction as the EPA pushes forward on using a higher blend of ethanol in gasoline, which some say causes corrosion and damages engines.
