In the heart of the Bay St. Louis Depot District, a fashion sensation has taken flight, and it's soaring high with a new location that's set to capture the hearts of folks of all ages and sizes. Fly Boutique Bay St. Louis, a beloved Mississippi fashion brand, has expanded its wings to a fifth location in 2022, bringing its unique blend of style and charm to Bay St. Louis.

With its headquarters nestled in Picayune and existing branches in Gulfport and Hattiesburg, this latest addition to the Fly Boutique family marks a significant milestone in the boutique's journey.

The roots of Fly Boutique trace back to 2005 when entrepreneur Tessie Putnam ventured into a partnership in a small children's boutique. However, as her two daughters blossomed into young ladies, Tessie decided to bid farewell to the children's clothing store. Yet, her unwavering passion for fashion and her deep connection with the shop's clientele kindled a new dream. In 2010, Tessie launched her first adult clothing store, Fly Boutique, and from that moment, it took flight and soared to new heights. Over the course of a dozen years and the establishment of four more locations, Tessie's vision has transformed into a thriving family-run franchise that graces the greater Gulf region of Mississippi.

What sets Fly Boutique apart is their dedication to scouring the country for "quality clothing lines that will make our customers feel stylish and beautiful," as Tessie herself puts it. This commitment ensures a wide range of styles and sizes for all while presenting the latest trends at wallet-friendly prices. Fly Boutique boasts a diverse inventory that caters to all your fashion and accessory cravings. Among its offerings, you'll discover a well-loved men's clothing section and an array of renowned brands like Kendra Scott, Consuela Bags, Vintage Havana, BuDha Girl, and Tyler Candles. Whether you prefer to browse their sleek brick-and-mortar stores or explore their robust online store at ShopFlyBoutique.com, Fly Boutique stands ready to serve your fashion needs.

So, if you're seeking the latest fashions to make you feel "fly," be sure to swing by Fly Boutique this Second Saturday, October 14, as they celebrate their Hot Spot status at their newest location. With its unique blend of family values and fashion-forward thinking, Fly Boutique is the go-to destination for style-conscious individuals of all ages and sizes.

🌟Season Opening on October 13th! 🌟

The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its new season with the Pulitzer Prize winning play “Driving Miss Daisy.” The show opens October 13th. The ticket sales are going so fast-paced that the Little Theatre is extending the run of the show to a third weekend.

The play was written by Alfred Uhry and premiered in New York City in 1987. The New York Daily News wrote “Driving Miss Daisy is a total delight.” Uhry adapted the play for the movie. The movie won the Academy Award for “Best Picture” and “Best Actress.”

This play is the third revival of the show that was previously performed immediately after Hurricane Katrina at the Gulfport Little Theatre and then again, in 2011 at the Bay St. Louis Little Theatre. This reprisal is in response to continuous community demand.

The show will have two of the original cast members, Cheryl Grace and David Bell, reprising their roles. Christian Vontoure will be joining the cast. Martha Mabey, a former reviewer for the Sun-Herald wrote “A production that was especially outstanding....the actors were as good as the movie stars in the film.”

“Driving Miss Daisy” takes place in Atlanta. The story tells of the evolving relationships of Miss Daisy, a wealthy widow, her businessman son, Boolie, and Hoke, a widower hired by Daisy’s son to be Miss Daisy’s chauffeur. The play spans twenty-five years of the three characters’ lives. It is a moving story of the unlikely friendship that grows between Miss Daisy and Hoke. “...a winner in this one....gives off a warm glow of humane affirmation.” - Variety.

Show dates and times are October 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 8pm and October 15, 22, and 29 at 2pm. Call 228-467-9024 for reservations or go to www.bsllt.org for tickets.

In the heart of Bay St. Louis, Edmond Fahey Funeral Home stands as a testament to a longstanding legacy of service, care, and community engagement. Over a year ago, in November 2021, the O’Keefe family took the mantle of this esteemed institution, bringing fresh perspectives while preserving the heritage of this establishment.

The O’Keefes have been proactive in enhancing the funeral home experience. They've shifted the showroom and merchandise room to the ground level, making it more accessible for guests. Complementing the rich history of the venue, they’ve upgraded lighting and are in the process of refining other cosmetic elements, including chandeliers and curtains.

Community engagement is a cornerstone of their philosophy. As Jeffrey O'Keefe Sr. points out, planning funeral arrangements is a realization many face annually. The funeral home, under the O’Keefe stewardship, has been diligent in reaching out to the community, educating them about this often-overlooked aspect of life. Their ‘Lunch and Learn’ initiative, conducted in partnership with local restaurants, is a prime example. Through this program, community members are invited to familiarize themselves with the funeral arrangement process.

The O’Keefes’ reach goes beyond just the funeral home. They also acquired the Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum in Bay St. Louis. Edmond Fahey, the prior owner, had established a sizable mausoleum, which over time, found its niches occupied. In acknowledgment of changing preferences, with cremation on the rise, the O’Keefes are now constructing a new garden-style mausoleum embellished with granite sourced from Spain. This modern construction will feature fewer full-size crypts but will provide more niches for cremations.

An initiative that resonates deeply with many is the annual candlelight ceremony known as the Celebration of Lights. Started last year, this ceremony invites the community to remember their departed loved ones with music, prayers, and the act of lighting luminaries. The Second Annual Celebration of Lights is set for December 9th, with the memorial service starting at 3:30 pm.

The O’Keefes have a storied legacy in the funeral service industry, marked not just by their commitment to community service but also by their resilience in the face of challenges. This legacy recently caught the attention of the cinematic world. Their legal battle with a major funeral corporation, which led to a lawsuit and a subsequent significant verdict, has inspired a movie. Titled "The Burial," the movie is set to premiere on Amazon Prime in October, with notable stars like Jamie Foxx in the cast. While the film offers a dramatized account, it nonetheless provides a glimpse into the tenacity and determination of the O’Keefes.

Above all, what stands out is the O’Keefes' profound sense of responsibility and honor. As Jeffrey O'Keefe Sr. shares, they're deeply pleased and honored to have been chosen to continue serving the community through the Edmond Fahey Funeral Home. Their commitment is evident in every upgrade, every initiative, and every effort to be a pillar of support for families in their times of need.

In conclusion, Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, with its rich history dating back to 1895, continues to thrive under the O’Keefes. Their blend of tradition, modernity, and deep-rooted community engagement ensures that the funeral home remains an indispensable part of the Old town Bay St. Louis community.

When it comes to finding the right mix of edge and fun in your wardrobe, few places nail it quite like Baytique. Nestled at 125D Main Street in Old Town Bay St. Louis, this charming store has been a fashion haven since 2012. Eleven years on, their motto "slightly edgy, always fun" is as relevant and evident as ever.

Jane Kulpeska, the passionate owner of Baytique, has an eye for the unique. “I strive to curate collections different from what you’ll encounter in regular department stores,” she shared. “Something that stands out, but isn’t overwhelmingly edgy.” It's this vision that has led Baytique to proudly feature fabulous brands such as Dune Jewelry, Umgee, Blowfish, and Hobo Bags.

Their pieces? Trendy, but affordable. Their customer service? Exceptional. Baytique's goal revolves around valuing the customer. “We aspire to offer more in value than what our customers spend in dollars,” the store proudly proclaims.

At its heart, Baytique is a reflection of its community - dedicated, vibrant, and slightly edgy. The team works tirelessly to make sure that every piece on their racks is sophisticated, comfortable, and of top-notch quality.

One might wonder, is Baytique a place strictly for the young and hip? Jane chuckles at the thought. “Our customers range from their twenties to their sixties!” So, whether you're a college student looking for a fresh take on fashion, a seasoned fashionista eager for a fresh twist, or searching for comfortable fashion that's both refreshing and easy, Baytique has you covered.

Be sure to join Baytique this Second Saturday, September 9th, as they celebrate their hotspot status with live music and refreshments from 4pm to 7pm. Residing in the heart of Old Town Bay St. Louis, on the corner of Second and Main, Magnolia Antiques stands proudly offering a memorable antiquing adventure that beckons to visitors and locals alike.

Stepping through the doors of Magnolia Antiques is similar to embarking on a captivating journey through time. With over 3,000 square feet of meticulously arranged retail space, the establishment is a haven for collectors, history enthusiasts, and those simply seeking a brush with the past. Bay St. Louis boasts of being a premier destination for antique aficionados, and Magnolia Antiques plays a pivotal role in that acclaim.

The offerings at Magnolia Antiques span a broad spectrum. Classic vinyl records set the ambiance, while gleams from mid-century modern furniture, collections of antique coins, and childhood comics serve as nostalgic reminders. Among the treasures are playable ukuleles (dozens whimsically hanging from the ceiling), vibrant vintage dishware, and a notable collection of swords and bayonets, including WWII relics. Pottery lovers can marvel at the popular Rockwood and Shearwater pieces, and colorful paperweights add to the diversity.

Behind this curated wonderland are the passionate endeavors of Glenda and Jack Schornick. Opening in 2008, they nurtured a business that champions quality and customer service. Today, under the stewardship of their daughter, Shay Coss, visitors are treated with familial warmth and expertise.

Describing Magnolia Antiques as merely a store would be an understatement, it's a living museum. Each artifact has its tale, and the knowledgeable family is ever eager to share. For those seeking modern memorabilia, it promises a treasure hunt like no other.

And the enchantment doesn't end with antiques. In celebration of their hotspot status, Magnolia Antiques will be hosting live music by The Heavy Strides on the upcoming Second Saturday, September 9th, from 4pm to 6pm.

Whether you're in Bay St. Louis or planning a visit, Magnolia Antiques beckons. It offers not just artifacts, but a symphony of art, history, and music.

100 Men D.B.A. Hall located at 303 Union Street, has stood as a historic landmark and defender of cultural expression and social justice for over a century. Founded in 1894, this historic venue was built by a community historically denied access to public spaces, becoming one of the few surviving landmarks of the infamous Chitlin Circuit.

The 100 Men Hall is a powerful testament to the role of art as a vehicle for activism, with decades of resilience against the oppressive Jim Crow South. It provided a sanctuary and platform for artists to defy social norms, creating a legacy of artistic expression that resonates to this day.

In 2018, Rachel Dangermond purchased the Hall not knowing the full extent of its history. Her initial goal was to find a space for her writer's workshops and community dialogues on race & equity. But as she discovered the Hall's rich history, she was inspired to continue the tradition of using art to tell stories, by showcasing a variety of performing, spoken, visual, and literary work, while still being a stage for live music.

Today, the Hall is upheld by its membership organization, 100 WOMEN DBA, honoring the nonprofit’s original mission: to uplift people of color, particularly women and girls, in the community. They've supported scholarships for high school students and helped local businesses expand, like Big Bertha’s Kitchen and Catering. They also celebrate cultural diversity through events like A Soulful Christmas and Juneteenth Jubilees. And has even expanded to include the Latin (Day of the Dead), Jewish (The Matzo Ball), LGBTQ (Drag Shows, Happy & Gay Hour) as well as other communities that are underrepresented.

Every Second Saturday, the 100 Men Hall transforms into a haven for writers: The Writing Room. It's a unique assembly where writers convene to craft their tales within a place steeped in its own stories. At the helm of this creative vessel is author in residence, Ellen Morris Prewitt.

On the upcoming Second Saturday, August 12th, join the 100 Men Hall at The Writing Room from 10AM to 1pm. Not only is the experience richly rewarding, but it is also completely free of charge. To secure your spot at this enchanting workshop, kindly send your registration to [email protected].

To coincide with Second Saturday, the 100 Men Hall hosts their popular Second Sunday Blues Brunches. The event features the best of blues music and the finest in dining all served in a historical setting. On August 13, from 11AM-1PM, their Blues Brunch will be featuring New Orleans-born guitarist Jimmy Robinson and New Orleans-based singer songwriter and slide guitarist Layla Musselwhite. Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

One of the Best Beach Towns to Visit

Southern Living has voted us one of the best beach towns to visit in the winter of 2018, saying, “If you like old architecture and quirky beach town charm, you will love Bay St. Louis and its mix of Southern grace, mystery, and heat. Located just 90 miles east of New Orleans, this town is a merging of marsh, river, and Gulf of Mexico beach.” It mentions Old Town’s charming shops, art galleries, and good eats. A surprising number of people move to the Bay after just one visit.
