Our namesake made a stop in New Orleans yesterday, so of course we were there to welcome the USS Farragut as it arrived in New Orleans for Nola Navy Week🇺🇸
USS FARRAGUT was the first of a modern class of missile destroyers and is named after the Navy's first Admiral, David Glasgow Farragut, whose motto "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" was immortalized at the Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay.

The shipped is docked at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal and open for FREE tours. (Full schedule in the comments)

A peek inside Unit 101 here at Farragut Lofts shows the ex*****on of a creative solution to hide exposed pipes in an intentional way using reclaimed wood from the demolition of the McDonald Hardware Store. Using original materials to overcome this small challenge maintains historical integrity, which is so important to us.

Happy Farragut Friday! Here at Farragut Lofts, we celebrate David Farragut’s American ideals of bravery, loyalty, and honor. A Midshipman before the age of 10, he experienced his first combat in the War of 1812 at the age of 12. That’s valiant! 🇺🇸

We can’t wait to welcome you to Farragut Lofts and our Full Speed Cafe THIS year! Wondering where our cafe’s name originated? During Union Admiral David Farragut’s attack on Mobile Bay, Admiral Farragut ordered his fleet to charge the bay, but when one of the lead boats struck a mine and sank, all the others pulled back. From his perch high up on the main mast of his flagship the U.S.S. Hartford, Farragut shouted down, “What’s the trouble?” In response, he was told of the torpedoes, to which he replied, “Damn the torpedoes! Four bell, Captain Drayton, go ahead. Jouett, full speed!” (Rear Admiral Jouett was known as “Fighting Jim Jouett of the American Navy.”

Our hearts go out to New Orleans, Lafourche Parish, Terrebonne Parish, and all surrounding river parishes as they recover and rebuild following the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Ida. Bay St. Louis has been a refuge of sorts for many of our Louisiana friends, and will continue to be a source of support. Louisiana is and we can’t wait to welcome you to Farragut Lofts next year!⚜️
