I wrote this song to post on 8/20, the day my brother was taken from me 15 years ago. But when I heard it back, I cried so much I almost couldn’t bring myself to share it.

Then I literally just saw his mom’s post, and it hit me… I owe it to everybody who loved Willie “J.R.” Sanders to keep his name alive and say it OUT LOUD. 🤍

So this is me choosing to share the love, the memories, the hurt, and the man we still miss.

J.R., you are still loved. Still missed. Still remembered. And your name will never be whispered. 🕊️

This week every year on the 16th, 17th and 20th, I grieve and never stopped crying for my daddy and two of my three brothers who are no longer here, with the last words I heard my oldest brother JR say being “I wanna be with my daddy” on the night my father was killed and then 3 days later he was!💔 So when I looked at this family trying to survive the unbearable loss of Anireeyah, I couldn’t tell them “it’s going to be okay.” Some losses never become okay. You just learn to keep breathing while carrying them.

So I wrote “To the Ones Left Behind” for Anireeyah’s mother, her grandmother, her entire family, and every person trying to figure out how to live with somebody missing. 🕯️

You don’t have to be strong today. You don’t have to stop crying. Just hold each other close. Nothing else matters right now.
