MotherBaby Summit

The MotherBaby Summit crew heads to Columbia, Missouri for a statewide Summit on Friday, September 29, 2017. Guest faculty include California-neonatologist Raylene Phillips (talking about the Sacred Hour) and Boston-Nurse Manager Ginny Combs (offering ideas on how to implement change). We plan to cut some cakes to celebrate progress in the Show Me State!

A busy conversation cafe session!

Do you know there are 9 contraindications to breastfeeding (per the American Academy of Pediatrics)?
1) Mother is HIV+ (in USA)
2) Mother is HTLV+
3) Mother with untreated brucellosis
4) Mother uses illegal street drugs
5) Baby with galactosemia
6) Active, untreated TB in mom*
7) Active herpes on breast*
8) Varicella 5 days before to 2 days after*
9) Certain medications

Mary Ellen Boisvert gives tips for QI for maternity leaders:

-Set expectations
-Create a timeline
-Make careful definitions of every important term (i.e., what is "immediate skin-to-skin"?)
-Establish subgroups (and leaders) and document
-Develop action plans (small, simple projects assigned to a person and track -document- the action plan)
-Track what works and what doesn't work (and why) on forms
