This past Saturday, Teach For America Greater Baton Rouge partnered with City Year Baton Rouge for an AmeriCorps Day of Service honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11.

Together, volunteers packed 600 appreciation kits for first responders in recognition of their service, sacrifice, and continued commitment to our communities. It was a meaningful opportunity to pause, remember, and turn gratitude into action through service.

Thank you to City Year Baton Rouge, Volunteer Louisiana, 9/11 Day, AmeriCorps, and everyone who joined us to make this project possible. We are grateful for the first responders who serve our region every day and for the partners and volunteers who helped us show our appreciation. 💙

Congratulations to Rory Denicola, Public and Government Affairs Advisor, on being recognized with the Community Leadership & Corporate Citizenship Award by Women in Unity.

For more than two decades, Rory has helped build stronger communities across the Baton Rouge area through her work supporting education, community engagement, emergency response, and strategic partnerships. Her leadership extends beyond the workplace through dedicated service to local organizations that create opportunities for students, families, and communities.

We're proud to celebrate Rory's commitment to making a positive impact and thank her for representing ExxonMobil's values through service and community leadership.

A recent The Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA) article spotlighted East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s continued investment in high-dosage tutoring and the strong student results, showing why this work matters.

Teach For America Ignite was among the tutoring providers included in the district’s analysis. The data showed that 59% of students served by TFA Ignite grew at least one achievement level on LEAP, and 40% of K–3 students served by TFA Ignite grew at least one proficiency level on DIBELS. Additionally, Capitol Elementary and Claiborne Elementary in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools ranked among the top 10 TFA Ignite schools nationwide for academic growth, out of more than 160 schools. Those numbers represent students building skills, confidence, and momentum with the support of consistent tutoring.

Our local partner feedback reinforces the impact we are seeing in schools. In TFA Greater Baton Rouge’s end-of-year Ignite survey, 90% of students reported that their Ignite Fellow taught them in a way they learn best. Schools also reported strong results: 100% shared that Ignite Fellows positively impacted students’ academic growth, and 100% reported a positive impact on students’ overall engagement in school.

We are proud of our students, Ignite Fellows, and school partners for the work behind these results. High-dosage tutoring is one powerful way to provide targeted academic support, strengthen relationships, and help more students grow. This school year, we are eager to support even more students and two new schools in the area, with 365+ TFA Ignite high-dosage Fellows providing literacy tutoring to students in first to fourth grades across 10 schools in three parishes- making GBR home to the nation's second-largest TFA Ignite tutor corps.

For 35 years, Teach For America Greater Baton Rouge corps members and alumni have helped change the lives of more than 170,000 students across our region through work in classrooms, schools, nonprofits, and communities. As one of Teach For America’s founding regions, Greater Baton Rouge has a legacy worth celebrating, and a future full of momentum.

We’re thrilled to share TFA Greater Baton Rouge’s 35th Anniversary Report, which honors the leaders who began their journeys here and now influence education locally and nationally. It also highlights the work happening today: new corps members teaching across five parishes, 100% of corps members reporting that they felt prepared to teach after summer practicum, nearly 250 alumni leading in the region, and more than 365 Ignite Fellows providing high-dosage literacy tutoring across 10 schools.

As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on what comes next: strengthening the educator pipeline, expanding literacy support, and developing leaders committed to educational opportunity for all children.

Congratulations to Collegiate Baton Rouge!

We’re excited to celebrate Collegiate Baton Rouge for being named a 2026 Jostens Renaissance Silver School of Distinction! Collegiate is one of only three schools in Louisiana to receive this recognition.

The award recognizes Collegiate's work to create a strong school culture where students feel connected, supported and empowered to lead.

Collegiate Student Ambassadors recently represented their school at the Jostens Renaissance Global Conference in Orlando, where they celebrated this achievement and the role students play in building the culture of their school.

Congratulations to the students, teachers, administrators, and entire Collegiate family!
