So I think a lot of people are misinterpreting the latest internal Jamie Davis poll and I want to make sure folks understand what the underlying headline is: yes, there is a path to victory for Jamie, but it won't happen fueled by a wish and prayer.

What the poll made abundantly clear - especially after interviewing the Davis campaign pollster yesterday - is that Jamie's path is simple: when voters know who he is, they want to vote for him. So he needs every voter in Louisiana to know who he is. Over the course of the next month and some change, that's not going to come from simply word of mouth or sharing content with other Democrats.

He needs money. He needs a lot of it. He needs the ability to run a very aggressive, statewide ad campaign and that's not something you can do with bubblegum and paperclips. He needs the money to run the ad in every single media market in the state, including in the expensive NOLA market.

If you truly believe in his campaign and you believe Democrats can pull off the upset, HOPING it happens isn't how that works. Too often, we on the left seem to think if we just hope hard enough, we can manifest a victory. That's not how elections work. Especially not here in Louisiana.

If you want him to win, he needs the funds to close the gap. That's it. That's the ballgame.

Wondering why so many Democratic politicians won’t match voters on AI?

Money.

It’s the same story as oil and gas in Louisiana. Petro has shaped state and local politics for decades because they write the checks. Being right and broke still leaves you out of power.

A lot of Democrats are underfunded. Being outspent 2-to-1 or more is a real way to lose. And a lot of them are staring at the same calculation: take a hard stand against the AI industry or data centers, and you may lose the money that keeps you competitive.

I’m not making excuses. I’m telling you what’s being said behind closed doors.

We can be right, broke, and out of power — or we can cobble together the resources to win. If you won’t fund them, rest assured someone else will. Or they’ll lose.

That’s the unfortunate truth. I don't want corporate, AI funded candidates either. But I also understand the hesitation to draw a brighter line in the sand on the issue.

The one thing I am excited about - especially with South Carolina moving up in the presidential primary calendar - is the increased importance of the Louisiana primary in 2028 and that's been evident all year, with Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Andy Beshear, and now Rahm Emanuel (all of whom are openly considering presidential bids) making it a priority to stop by.

My ask of ALL of them - if you want any of our support - is that you also host fundraisers for the state party and the local DPECs in the areas you visit. Don't just come down for the gumbo - we need resources to build our party infrastructure and you need support. That should be the transaction.
